A friend of mine, one 4th of July, tried firing an old cannon. A piece of the cannon took off about half of his head. He left a wife and a son.

Cool is cool, till it kills someone. Then it ain't so cool.

3. Safety first!
That happens to military cannon shooters from time to time also. I will not have to be right next to the thing when I shoot it. I will get far away- maybe a minute long fuse. I have 1700 yards of clear farmland to shoot on- just have to move some cows around.

Fun with explosives! Can't beat that!

Move the cows and you've got nothing to aim at!

Even better......build a trebuchet and fling the cows across the farm!

Even, even better.....build a trebuchet and a cannon, get a friend to launch the cow and see if you can bring it down using the cannon - a kind of hardcore skeet-shooting (clay pigeon shooting, for UK DUers).
