3 More D.C. Homicides Add to Deadly Week
This is happening in a city where private gun ownership has all but been "banned".

Three people were killed and at least three others were wounded before dawn yesterday in a succession of apparently unrelated shootings that capped a deadly eight-day stretch in the District.

Since July 26, 10 people have been killed across the city, raising the number of homicides to 152 and putting the District on pace to surpass last year's total.

2. No, what would help
is allowing the law abiding to arm and protect themselves with whatever means they deem necessary.

4. Do me a favour.
I can't access the article and I have no wish to give the Washington Post any details at all.

Were the shootings drug / gang related?

If so, they are the things I'd work on first before deciding on increasing the weaponry held by citizens.

5. Sure thing, good buddy:
<snip>

The next episode of deadly gunfire unfolded shortly after 4 a.m. in Northeast Washington, police said. Three men were riding in a car near 16th Street and West Virginia Avenue when another car pulled alongside. At least two occupants of the second car opened fire, Gentile said.

<snip>

In the last of the pre-dawn homicides, a teenager was found dead in Northeast Washington about 4:30 a.m. after police received reports of gunfire in the unit block of Hawaii Avenue, where officers found Samuel Arias Avila, 19. Police said Avila, of the 1400 block of Columbia Road NW, appeared to have been beaten and shot. He was taken to Washington Hospital Center, where he died.

Residents of Hawaii Avenue said yesterday that they did not know what led to the shooting.

"I didn't see what had happened, where he had come from or anything," said a woman who lives down the street and spoke on condition of anonymity. "I wasn't worried about my safety or my family's safety, but I'm worried all the time now. That's just my nature. Things are just so crazy nowadays."

6. Whoa, that was weird
that reply posted all by itself. I had the window open and was pasting snippets of the article, and voila, the reply posted.

Anyways, it looks like the shootings are the same kinds of shooting you see in every other city.

What's different here is that the citizenry is forbidden from having weapons, and as a result: "I'm worried all the time now. That's just my nature. Things are just so crazy nowadays."

7. Thank you very much
"The next episode of deadly gunfire unfolded shortly after 4 a.m. in Northeast Washington, police said. Three men were riding in a car near 16th Street and West Virginia Avenue when another car pulled alongside. At least two occupants of the second car opened fire, Gentile said"

Interesting. Were the occupants of the first car armed I wonder?
If so the self defence argument is kind of moot. If not I fail to see how anything other than a manned 50.cal turret is going to save you on the highway.

"In the last of the pre-dawn homicides, a teenager was found dead in Northeast Washington about 4:30 a.m. after police received reports of gunfire in the unit block of Hawaii Avenue, where officers found Samuel Arias Avila, 19. That's pretty shitty. I need more info. Armed 19 year olds hanging around at 4.30am just seems a strech when trying to make the world a safer place?

3. well, having more police doesn't seem to be helping
DC has the highest per capita police force in the country.

Don't take my word for it. http://www.house.gov/norton/20010411.htm

And none of those officers has any legal responsibility to help anyone's *ss in need.
