15-year-old Oakland girl charged with murder in friend's shooting

SAN LEANDRO — A 15-year-old Oakland girl was charged with murder today in the fatal shooting Sunday morning of an 18-year-old man she had been dating, authorities said.

Besides the murder charge, the girl, whose name was not released, also had an enhancement clause of use of a firearm added by Assistant District Attorney Matt Golde.

The girl is still in custody at Juvenile Hall in San Leandro and will have a detention hearing Thursday to determine whether she will be released from custody to her family or will be held for trial.

Golde, who heads the district attorney's juvenile division in San Leandro, said that the girl has no prior criminal record and that there are no plans to prosecute her as an adult.

That place is a hothouse for gangs, that is a GANG culture that spawned a fifteen year old willing to murder her boyfriend over God knows what, not a GUN culture. You see, our gun-enthused parts of the country have been buying literally tens of millions of new guns over the last thirty years, yet our accident rate has dropped through the floor, through the foundation even, while our murder rate is at a forty year low.


So guess what? Someone like myself, can safely say that no, it isn't our "gun culture" that is responsible for an abomination like this. I bet you mainly see guns in action movies and on the news though, so I wouldn't expect you to be familiar with their use, storage, or the eminently safe and responsible way they are used all over this fair nation every single day.

I read a story like this, and I feel sad, as a father sick to my stomach at the thought of this gril, who almost certainly did not have the advantage of a life with both parents, growing up in a gang-saturated city, murdering her young boyfriend over who-cares-what.
