ID chips pressed into laundered clothes

We may as well discuss this on the J/PS forum before the Scary Brady Bunch proposes it.

QUOTE
The Laundry Transponder, from TI Radio Frequency Identification Systems, is a thin 13.56MHz radio frequency identification (RFID) chip with a circumference of 22mm that can be attached or sewn into fabric. Its plastic casing is capable of withstanding industrial cleaning processes, making it practical for dry cleaners to track items through to customer delivery.
AND
The tags are seen to have privacy implications, however, as they are capable of collecting data on consumers and allowing individuals to be tracked remotely.
UNQUOTE

How long before the gun-control group asks for a law requiring all firearms to have one of these chips?

2. I'll just...
buy my clothes on the secondary market, and never have them dry-cleaned.

3. I wonder
how well they stand up to EMP?

Or some type of strong EM source?

4. Actually, it seems like a reasonable idea to me.
After all, if you are not doing anything illegal with your firearm, what have you got to worry about? It's not like you can't just leave you gun at home when you don't want to be tracked.

I'm actually against the idea of RFIDs regarless of what they are used on, but for the sake of argument, wouldn't that be a good compromise? You can keep your guns as long as they can be tracked. Seems fair.

5. T'would solve the problem of guns getting stolen
And they ARE stolen constantly...so much for the "guns deter crime" garbage.

6. It would especially solve the problem when criminals destroy the chips
And I don't see how that relates to the fact that deterrance works.

7. Yeah surrrrrrrrrrre....
That's why guns are stolen so often...because criminals are paralyzed by fear at the thought that guns are present.

9. that's like saying...
if you don't have drugs in your house, why are you worried about the Government searching it whenever they want?

or

If you're not plotting terrorist attacks, why should you worry if the Government sends spies into your church?

or

If you're not doing anything illegal, why are you worried about the Government listening in on all of your phone calls without a warrant?

or

If you don't speed, why are you worried about the Government putting a GPS/speedometer/cellphone in your car to keep an eye on you?

Big Brother doesn't need any more people playing Devil's Advocate for it...It's already got Ashcroft taking care of it...
