Wal-Mart to sell handguns
http://www.baynews9.com/article/news/2011/april/238643/WalMart-to-sell-handguns

Wal-Mart is stepping up its gun business.

The store chain wants to put handguns on its shelves in order to boost sales.

More than 1,000 stores already sell rifles, shotguns, and ammunition, but only stores in Alaska sell handguns.

Wal-Mart said they'll soon be selling handguns at 2,000 stores nationwide, mainly in areas where fishing and hunting are popular.

1. They will, no doubt, be as awesome as the rest of their merchandise.
Caveat emptor.

8. Probably
I can count on one hand the number of times I've been inside a Wally World in the past five years, and I used to work there.

4. I'm pretty sure that they
Edited on Sun May-01-11 11:39 AM by GKirk
used to sell handguns. I don't think my local Wally Mart sells guns of any kind right now.

And in addition I don't think whether they do or don't sell handguns will make a lick of difference as to how many people own guns in an area. The only effect will be on the mom and pop gun store around the corner.

5. Crappy Chinese handguns that break after one use?
Guns are tools. I don't go to Wally World for tools. Actually, I don't go there for anything. I learned about Chinese tools at Harbor Freight.

to use the toilet. I like the idea of turning their twenty million dollar building into my own personal outhouse.

They do have nice dead blow hammers and I like the magnetic bolt holders. Beyond that.....

17. No but cheap "Walmart" editions of S&W maybe
As well as Jennings (very bad) and Hi-Point (I own two, they are better than their reputation but I would not bet my life on one).

13. I have bought exactly one firearm-related item at Wal Mart, ever
To wit a pair of Butler Creek flip-up scope covers, for a scope I did not buy at Wal Mart, to put on a rifle I did not buy at Wal Mart.

And that's about as much as I intend ever to buy there.

14. I won't buy guns from Walmart anymore.
The halfassed clerk in sporting goods hassled a friend of mine when he tried to buy a rifle. Their merchandise may or may not be of decent quality, but the service is pathetic.

18. They rarely have knowledgeable staff
As always... Wally World is a place you go to knowing what you're looking for.

Underpaid, stressed out employees, who I respect and treat kindly, knowing that one day, maybe, I could be forced to work there.

19. I guess WalMart didn't get the VPC/Brady memo?
Why on earth would they make such a poor business decision if firearms sales are declining?

:sarcasm:

20. Wal-Mart has some good ammo deals.
A few weeks ago I bought the entire stock of Remington UMC .45acp at 3 different walmarts for $84.97/250 round case. That's a great price. Prior to that all the local prices were in the $100/250 range.

It was a good rifle at a good price.

28. You are correct.
My sarcastic response was do to a poster that once claimed that Walmart sold guns for under $100.00 with no questions asked. This person claimed that they were going to go buy one and Walmart to prove their assertion. Of course that never happened.

27. Looks like a return to their previous policy, after a hiatus.
WM used to sell handguns, and they've always sold handgun ammunition. And I don't recall them selling the really cheap ones, either; they were mostly guns from major manufacturers, like their rifle and shotgun lines.

29. Gun sales are up, WalMarts sales are down. Doing the math
it would seem to be a smart move.
