Pa. man faces charges after allegedly threatening Jehovah's Witnesses with gun, firing shots
Edited on Fri May-20-11 06:08 PM by RamboLiberal
EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. — A northeastern Pennsylvania man faces charges after he allegedly threatened several Jehovah's Witnesses with a semi-automatic rifle and fired shots into the ground.

Witnesses at a preliminary hearing Thursday said 59-year-old William Kalapach felt the Jehovah's Witnesses weren't leaving his Price Township property quickly enough after he asked them to last month.

The Pocono Record reports Kalapach's wife, Rhonda, initially answered the door and told the visitors she and her husband weren't interested. Witnesses say William Kalapach later got the rifle, pointed it in the direction of the visitors and fired four times into his lawn as they drove away.

A district judge upheld charges of aggravated assault, reckless endangerment and terroristic threats against Kalapach. His wife says he has health issues and was upset about the death of his mother.

Kalapach's wife, Rhonda, answered the door and politely told the visitors she and her husband are devout Catholics and that they weren't interested. She told them her husband, a retired truck driver with health issues, was upset over his mother's recent death and it wasn't a good time for strangers to be visiting.

At that point, William Kalapach had come to within a few feet of the visitors and was still yelling, telling them to leave. The visitors told him they were doing just that as they walked back to their car.

"You're not leaving fast enough," Kalapach said, according to testimony. "You think I'm kidding? I'm going to get my gun."

Kalapach then went to the garage, got the rifle and began walking toward them, pointing the rifle in their direction, Tia-Rosa Stitch said. The visitors got back into their car and, as they began driving away, Kalapach fired the rifle four times into his lawn.

1. You think that will be added to crime stats of using a semi-auto rifle in confrontations. Doubtful.

2. There are about 250 rapes per day in the USA. I wonder how many did not occur because the woman was
armed and how many could have been avoided. You think women should be disarmed because some dude shot at some annoying religious people who were unwelcome on this his property and NO ONE WAS HURT.

4. Why doubtful?

The guy was charged with aggravated assault; it's the gun that makes it aggravated, so it should show up in due course in the FBI's UCR with the weapon listed.

Edited to change "convicted" to "charged."

3. Shooting at Jehovah's Witnesses? Justified. (Just Kidding)
There are 310 million people in the U.S. That some of them will do something criminal with a gun is no reason to take my gun away from me.

7. They can be a pain, but I always treated them with politeness ...
and it paid off twice.

Years ago I found a recipe for sourdough bread in one of their magazines and made quite a few loafs of bread which my family really enjoyed.

They also helped me sell my house in the Tampa Bay area after it was flooded by a unusually strong spring storm system. When they stopped by I mentioned that since this was the second time I had been flooded out in the 36 years I had lived in the house, I planned to fix it up and sell it.

The Jehovah's Witnesses mentioned that my neighbor's kids were looking to buy a house near their parents and might be willing to purchase mine. It worked out well as they did buy the house and I didn't even have to fix it up. Obviously they knew the house flooded as their parent's house had also been flooded by the storm.

9. Yes. I only had couple of inches of water in the house ...
but that does a lot of damage.
