Armed Citizens: Calling 911 Doesn't Always Work
From LiveLeak.com:

Armed Citizens: Calling 911 Doesn't Always Work

This 911 call took place in a town in Indiana. The woman briefly dated Ryan Bergner. She declined further dates, but the man refused to leave her alone, stalking and harassing her. The woman filed six complaints against him. Then he made the last wrong decision of his life - he broke into her house.

Some have noted the shots are difficult to hear in this call, whether because of poor phone quality or other distortions. The sounds of the door being kicked also confuse matters. At 5:35, Bergner states "what are you trying to do, kill me?" which we know was after some of the shots were fired. If you listen closely at 5:44, it sounds like another shot can be heard, likely the third, because the wounded intruder was trying to strangle her.

Thankfully this poor lady was able to defend herself.

1. She didn't follow the script...
She was supposed to let him take the gun away from her. Or so the story goes...

5. Pretty sure it was sarcasm.
The standard lines for gun control fans is that "the gun is 43 times more likely to kill a friend or family member" or "the criminal will just take it from you and use it against you" etc.

7. Sadly, In this case, calling 911 did work
In most home invasions, the Bad Guys are either in full control or stopped within 15 seconds. That is hardly time to even place a call to 911.

In this case, the stalker delayed the forced entry and then spent some 3 minutes in the house before forcing the bedroom door and physically attacking the victim. The victim had been on the phone talking with the 911 operator for more than 5 minutes when the final attack took place.

I do not know how much time was required for officers to arrive and secure the location, but this tape well illustrates what you can reasonably expect from "emergency responders".

This lady did everything in her power to avoid the confrontation, but when all else failed, that gun was her "court of last resorts". She was her on "first responder". She saved her life.

If you choose not to be your own First Responder, then you choose to be a victim.

Semper Fi,

8. If someone was attacking me with the intent of inflicting serious injury or killing me ...
I would rather have a firearm in my hand than a phone.

If I have time I would rather have the phone in one hand and the gun in the other.
