Massad Ayoob
Any of you guys read his books? He carried a gun in his dad's jewelry store from the time he was 12, and went on to have a long career in the police force. His book In the Gravest Extreme is a great read. He also writes a column for some online magazine called Backwoods Home or something like that.

He really made me think about what it is that I'm doing when I carry a gun.

1. "In the Gravest Extreme"
Should be required for anyone even THINKING about buying a personal protection firearm. He goes over all the legal problems a person would face, even if they were in the right in shooting someone in self defense. Also describes the personal issues one would face after shooting somebody, and the effect on your friends, family, etc. It's a very sobering book.

2. Ayoob is OK
I'm a Gabe Suarez kind of guy.

"Combat Perspectives" is thought provoking. It is not restricted to firearms, rather self defense in general.

3. Ayoob is awesome!!
But his book "In the Gravest Extreme" is very dated. It hasn't been updated since its publication in 1980. I recommend Chris Bird's "The Concealed Handgun Manual." It goes over the same info as Ayoob, only much more in-depth.

4. Ayoob is Ok....
But I lost most of my respect for him when he defended the NYPD cops who riddled that unarmed poor immigrant with dozens of 9mm rounds a couple of years ago. Ayoob is almost always pro-cop, and towards cops I'm ambivalent at best

5. I hadn't heard that.
I'll have to revise my opinion of him.
