IDF prepares for wide-scale raid in northern Gaza Strip

"After an Islamic Jihad suicide bomber killed at least five people outside a shopping mall in Netanya, the Israel Defense Forces was preparing Monday evening for a wide-spread retaliatory operation in the northern Gaza Strip.

Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz told Army Radio the IDF is preparing to cross back into the Gaza Strip in the coming hours. This would be the first IDF incursion into Gaza since the disengagement was completed in September.

Military sources said the operation was liable to last "several weeks or even a month."

President Condemns Netanya Operation

RAMALLAH, December 5, 2005 (WAFA)- President Mahmoud Abbas condemned on Monday Netanya operation in Israel.

Presidency spokesman said in a statement that the President has strongly condemned the terrorist operation which took place today morning in Hasharon shopping mall in Netanya.

The President issued strict instructions to arrest those involved in and responsible for the operation and bring them to justice.

"These operations against civilians cause the greatest damage to our committment to the peace process, and the Palestinian National Authority will not show indulgence towards anyone who is found responsible for this operation," the statement said.
