The death wish of the left
http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/pages/ShArt.jhtml?itemNo=661303&contrassID=2

the willingness of Palestinian gunmen to exploit it by firing Qassam rockets at Sderot and Ashkelon at every post-withdrawal opportunity, created a new Israeli consensus, one in which citizens of all stripes now looked to the Palestinians to make the first move - any move - toward peace.

________________

and were still waiting for something from the palestenains besides kassams, because if this is the way they react toward a good move, a first move by the israelis...thats probably all they're going to get.....

1. It is Israel that rejects peace. How many bulldozed Palestinian homes
this week? How many bulldozed olive orchards? How many Palestinian children killed? How many communities closed off from their farmland? How many Grandmothers not allowed to complete a trip to the doctor? How many....

A friend gave me a pamphlet from these guys the other night. She has friends in the organization & they wanted her to look at it for them (She is a psychologist).

10. These people will know, ask them!
Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions

"House demolitions have become the hallmark of the Occupation. Indeed, since 1967 Israel has demolished almost 12,000 Palestinian homes, leaving some 70,000 without shelter and traumatized."

11. In other words, you don't know
I think the correct answer is zero, but that really doesn't matter, does it? It's OK for the Palestinians to fire Kassam rockets from Gaza, and it's not OK for the Israelis to defend themselves.

19. Defend themselves?
The reason Palestinians are firing rockets is because of the continued occupation of Palestine. Secondly, collective punishment and oppression is equal to or worse than the "terrorism" you speak of.

How many homes? Palestinian homes are destroyed all the time with little fanfare, as it is so common. However, here is something you might find of interest:
http://www.ifamericansknew.org/stats/homes.html

Of course, I understand that Israel destroys the houses of families, steals their land, commits air strikes on schools and homes and oppresses an entire people "in self defense"...:eyes: :puke:

the PA is against the rocket fire (sometimes), yet cannot stop it....no homes being destroyed in gaza.....no IDF presence....access to egypt.....

23. spitballs?
so now missles are spitballs.....of course we're attacking gaza......they keep shooting missles and try to kill us?...duh!

This escalation has come in the context of a plan made by the Israeli Ministry of Defense to respond to launching locally made rockets at Israeli towns located to the east of the Gaza Strip....

perhaps they should try to stop trying to kill israelis....

hey i've got an idea....whats your suggestion so that the palestenians in gaza will stop terrorizing israelis in the towns and cities around gaza?........

25. I guess the real suggestion is the old

sack cloth and ashes, fervent prayer, and fasting -- and then return to Lithuania, Belo-Rus, and Polish-Lithuanian when fasting fails to stop the missiles. - But I guess is off the table - there's oil there - so the PA has an over-riding royalty if not absolute ownership.

:sarcasm:

12. No-
It is the effing Shattuck Avenue super-libruls who as they move further and further to the left (and Lev Davidovitch Bronstein was a blood relative - and my grandfather grew up with "Cousin Leon") they get closer to the extreme right.

Berkeley is Left of Liberal.

(I live in the SF Bay Area - and on rare occasions I go to professional meetings and seminars, and to Beyt Tikkun in Berkeley).

15. What does your family tree have to do with this?
Interesting as I am sure that may be to some people.

However, I don't understand what that has to do with creating real peace and justice in the Middle East.

So, now you're a Trotskyist? (Lev Davidovitch Bronstein = Leon Trotsky).

2. Both sides started out with some right on their side
and they both quickly became wedded to violence, which is a losing tactic in a struggle like this one, no matter how you look at it.

Undoubtedly they will both continue this until either everyone is dead or they are so exhausted by slaughter that there is nothing left for them to do but try to learn how to live with each other as equals.

I wish them luck, but I have no use for the leadership on either side.

18. the apathy article in same issue?
oh that haaretz. for all the articles like this one there're still better than the NY Times because they allow a wider spectrum. i think the same issue as the "death wish of the left" article was in also had an article
about Israeli apathy toward the suffering of Palestinians and it generated over 100 comments that included one entitled "you don't win wars by being nice"
