The IDF will be forced to pay NIS 82,000 (about USD 17,500) in compensation following the acquittal of a captain who was accused of violating army rules by shooting at a 12-year-old Palestinian girl near an army post.
The compensation will be paid according to an agreement between the parties, which came into force Wednesday at the IDF Southern Command's military court.
Some NIS 80,000 (USD 17,000) will be paid for defense expenses and detention days, and another NIS 2,000 (about USD 450) will be paid as legal expenses to the officer's lawyers. The judges ruled that the money will be transferred to the officer, who was recently promoted to the rank of major, within one month.
The officer's defense attorneys, Elad Eisenberg and Yoav Meni, asked the court that the army pay the officer's legal expenses and that he be compensated for the 104 days he spent in custody, amounting to NIS 154,000 (about USD 33,000).

The major currently serves as the Givati brigade's deputy assistant chief of operations.
