IAF base commander quits in wake of statutory rape affair

An update on this developing story from Ha'aretz:

Colonel A., the commander of the air force base in the south where dozens of soldiers allegedly had sex with a 13-year-old girl, announced Thursday he wishes to resign.

Last week Haaretz reported that A. had no plans to leave voluntarily because he had no knowledge of the affair before it broke out and therefore he should not bear the responsibility.

A number of public bodies have claimed that the commander does bear responsibility for the serial rape of the girl on his base and that he must pay the price, whether or not he knew about it.
