Muslim delegates said scotching Israel's bid to join Red Cross
GENEVA - An attempt to end Israel's long isolation from the Red Cross humanitarian movement hit a snag Tuesday as Muslim opponents used procedural moves to block progress at a decisive international conference, delegates said.

The International Conference of the Red Cross and Red Crescent, which opened Tuesday and is expected to conclude Wednesday, is being asked to approve changes to meet Israeli demands of almost six decades that it be granted full membership without using the cross or crescent to identify itself.

But Red Cross officials hosting the conference confirmed that the meeting's validity had been challenged. They declined to identify the delegation that filed the motion because the session was being held behind closed doors.

1. Each country should have its own symbol
and maybe each person. A symbol for each and every one of us! :eyes:

Israel once again the "Jew" of nations. What an insult!

The early excuses for the Red Cross not admitting the Mogen David Adom (MDA has been trying to become recognized by the International Red Cross since 1930) was that they didn't want to add another symbol. They already had the Cross and the Crescent.

Flash forward to the 21st century, they're adding another symbol. The symbol of Dhimmitude.
It's good that Israeli medical teams are now legally NOT targets. Agreeing to be "bent backed and bow headed" is a shame. Will Israeli EMTs have to look at the ground when a Red Cross or Red Crescent ambulance passes?

2. Israel allowed to join Red Cross
The Red Cross movement has approved a resolution allowing Israel and Palestinian societies to join.
The measure was passed in a late-night vote despite objections by Muslim countries to the Israeli Magen David Adom society becoming a member.

The society has been applying to join since the 1930s, before Israel's creation, but objects to the traditional cross and crescent symbols.

Under a deal reached in December, it will use a diamond-shaped red crystal.

"We have a positive outcome," said Sian Bowen, a spokeswoman from the International Red Cross.

4. the OP
is an update to that december story. after originally having a deal to allow the red diamond in as part of the international red cross, some muslim countries are now reneging and opposing israels entry

as quoted from yesterdays article
"The emblem - dubbed the "red crystal" - was approved over Muslim objections in a hard-fought diplomatic conference last December. But that was only the first step, and the conference was called to complete the job."
