Irish MP: Israel an "abhorrent and despicable" regime
Sinn Féin International Affairs and Human Rights spokesperson Aengus Ó Snodaigh TD has described Israel as "one of the most abhorrent and despicable regimes on the planet." Questioning the Minister for Foreign Affairs Dermot Ahern in the Dáil today he said the kidnap by Israel of some 25 democratically elected Palestinian representatives demonstrates "the true nature of Israel's commitment to not so democratic principles."

He said, "Israel is without doubt one of the most abhorrent and despicable regimes on the planet. According to the UN Secretary General for Political Affairs, in the month prior to the capture of the Israeli soldier by Palestinians at least 49 Palestinians, including 11 children, were killed by Israeli forces and 259 injured. A ground assault on Gaza began yesterday involving tanks, bulldozers, thousands of troops undercover of air fire and the demolition of key pieces of civilian infrastructure including bridges and Gaza's electric power plant. The bombardment of civilian infrastructure amounts to collective punishment and a crime against humanity and the abduction and imprisonment by Israel of some 25 democratically elected Palestinian representatives demonstrates the true nature of Israel's commitment to not so democratic principle

11. no, though Sinn Féin has a history of anti-Jewish sentiment since the 30's

because he provides no constructive remedy, and because the actions of sinn fein are just as bad as dispiciple as what he accuses the Israellis of, except in sinn fein's case, they would not have captured the politicians, they would have killed them immediately

I am not defending what Israel did, but am critisising sinn fein whose history has been filled with intolerance and death itself

The Israelli/Palestinian problem can be laid right at the door step of bush and company. When Clinton left office, an opportunity existed to continue the negotiation between Israel and the Palestinians, instead he ignored it, and even helped encourage the violence

What is needed is someone to force the parties back to the table, but unfortunately I do not see it happening under the current regime

sinn fein brings nothing to the table but more hatred, which is not what this situation needs.

4. Not too surprising...
the IRA's political wing has long been sympathetic to the Palestinian cause, seeing the Palestinian struggle as somewhat analogous to their own.

Its as if the govt wants to continue the conflict. Or they are playing into the hands of one or more that are against peace in the area. Either way I dont get it.

Blast shield is up!

edit for spelling

8. Ah yes,
that delightful spot where the left wingnuts and the right wingnuts meet. Publishing stuff like that makes EI less than credible. Reduce everything to hate and stir. I'd be as embarassed to use EI as a source as I would frontpage. No daylight between them.

12. So?
The fact that this screed is published on some other obscure website hardly enchances its credibility and it certainly doesn't address the points I raised in my prior post.

14. IRA and their palestenian allies....
jenin booby traps designed by the IRA

LONDON - A former British explosives expert now working for the Red Cross in the Jenin refugee camp has found 200 explosive devices that are identical to those used by the IRA in Northern Ireland, according to a report in The Sunday Telegraph yesterday.

Former Royal Engineers bomb-disposal expert Paul Collinson told the London-based paper that the devices he had found were identical in every detail to those he had encountered in Northern Ireland.

and of course the IRA also has quite the experience in targeting the unarmed as well:

http://www.cfr.org/publication/9240/

Since the late 1960s, the IRA has killed about 1,800 people, including about 650 civilians. The IRA’s primary targets were British troops, police officers, prison guards, and judges—many of them unarmed or off-duty—as well as rival paramilitary militants, drug dealers, and informers in Ulster.
