Study: W. Bank laborers earn less than 50% of minimum wage
<snip>

"Palestinian workers employed in West Bank settlements and factories earn less than half the minimum wage stipulated by law, a Knesset study revealed Tuesday.

According to the data compiled ahead of a planned meeting of the Foreign Workers Committee, many of the Palestinian workers receive no health insurance or are insufficiently insured for work-related accidents.

Committee Chairman, MK Ran Cohen (Meretz), called for the discussion after receiving complaints about Palestinian workers' conditions in Israel and the Palestinian territories.

Some 18 thousand Palestinians are employed in the West Bank in the industrial, agricultural, construction and services sectors."

1. Arabs look down on Palestinians
I'm in Kuwait, and I know that most Arabs look down on Palestinians as "undeveloped." It gets more complicated: they don't like the way the Palestinians are being treated by Israel either (and I really think the US needs to be more even-handed in this area). I'm concerned that these workers aren't being paid minimum wage, and the US needs to do something to improve this situation, because I really don't expect the Arab world to lift a finger.

3. Did you read the article?
Due to the many testimonies of infringement of Palestinian workers' rights by Israeli employers in the West Bank, it is worthy to probe whether employers comply to the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Labor laws," the study recommends.
