Can DU'ers Discuss Opus Dei and Lukkud Israel? Why can't we civily do
Edited on Mon Oct-06-03 08:28 PM by KoKo01
this?

There are fringes of all our beliefs or what many might term "non-beliefs" here on DU. But, the RW FUNDIES seem more open to be trashed here, without locks, or flames, or descending into "name calling."

So many of us (myself, included) can really go after the FUNDIES because WE KNOW they are THE ENEMY.....but we fall down when we get to Opus Dei/Zionist/Likkud Israel and we have very thin skins......Maybe because most of us DU'ers belong more to the "mainstream groups" which have spawned (what we would call "Fundie" in our OWN relgions?)

And, I will include in my post the "Episcopal Church." Going through it's own "CHANGES" today. One step down from the Catholic Church! What does that make it?

Whatever....Our Relgions or Anti-Relgions or Anti-Belief systems here on DU...have SO MUCH to do with TODAY's POLITICS, that we NEED to discuss it all.

But, the FLAME DANGER causes so many posts to be "locked or deleted" by Mods....because we get so carried away in our rhetoric.

We need to discuss more and "flame" less....but how do we do that? I don't know.

1. Here's a suggestion
1. Step back

2. Take a deep breath

3. REALLY analyze what the person is saying, good or bad, genuine discourse or knee-jerk response.

4. Ignore obviously baiting questions, address legitimate qustions or responses

5. Avoid thinking every negative thing said is a personal attack on you (if you are a member or affiliated with group under discussion).

I can't tell you how many times I've been called a (insert whatever here)-basher, simply because I've asked questions or made statements that aren't glowing apologies for whatever topic is under discussion.

Maybe this will help. Probably not, though.

2. Well, first of all it is "Likud"
And anything I/P related gets uncerimoneously dumped in the FA/NS dungeon where it is locked, never to be seen again.

3. Here's a news article from June to help get the discussion rolling.
Last time it was posted here the thread ended up with almost every post deleted

4. I am a Catholic and don't have any problems with criticism of
Opus Dei. I don't know why any Catholic Dem would. Very few Catholics are members. No catholic moderates and liberals are members.

5. Read this quick before it's scrubbed...
Quickly, now, the Sharon supporters are busting alert caps on my ass as I type this...

It seems simple to me.

Criticizm of heavy-handed Israeli "revenge" tactics=Anti-Semitism.

My own girlfriend yells at me "Well, you experct the Israelis to sit there and do NOTHING???"
and I yell back (after the helicopters kill a coupla dozen) "Well, you expect the Palestinians to sit there and do NOTHING???? WHY should the Palestinians do nothing while Sharon has his army get revenge at the rate of 10 Palestinians for every Israeli killed?"

The only thing we CAN agree on is that there will never be peace in OUR lifetimes over there.
