Hamas site: 'Israel has poisoned Arafat'
http://www.jnewswire.com/news_archive/03/10/031009_arafat.asp

Rumors are circulating in the Palestinian Authority areas that Israel is behind what doctors are calling "a mysterious virus" plaguing PLO arch terrorist Yasser Arafat.

An anonymous Palestinian official quoted on a Hamas-supportive Palestinian website said attempts were being made to verify that Arafat may have been injected with a drug that leads to a natural death, according to The Jerusalem Post Thursday.

According to an anonymous Palestinian official purportedly quoted on the website of the Hamas-affiliated Palestine Information Center, the possibility exists that Arafat has been poisoned by Israel."We have information which we are trying to verify according to which President Arafat may have been injected with a lethal dose that slowly and gradually leads to a natural death within a month," the official was quoted as saying.

Arab propagandists have routinely accused Israel of carrying out all kinds of bizarre "attacks" on Palestinians, including carrying out secret assassinations and secretly infecting Arab girls with the AIDS virus.

1. It is propaganda
what is NOT propaganda is that Arafat is very close to dying

What is not propaganda is that there is no succesor

What is not propaganda is that the territories will probably
go up in flames as soon as his death is confirmed, nature
abhors a vacuum.

3. ...or another possibility...

Hamas becomes the defacto power that Israel has to deal with.

That is the one thing that they have wanted to avoid, and that is the one big reason why they have not recently booted/assasinated Arafat.

They know that as soon as Arafat is gone there is nobody else to talk to with power, and those that do have the power don't want to talk. They want to kill.

As painful as Arafat is to Israelies he is better to them alive than dead. As soon as he passes he will then be used as a martyr.

Dead or alive Arafat will still be a force to be reckoned with.

4. I expect young Bashar Assad has a cunning Syrian plan to deal
with Ariel Sharon, when the time comes for Yasser to join his 72 virgins in the sky....

He's the No 1 choice to replace Saddam or Yasser as a figurehead and has the relative advantage of being so-far untainted by major atrocity or cargange.

Blair has been 'grooming' him with an official visit last year and high-profile UK press coverage.

The Arab League supports him and Syria's well up with the OPEC boys, with healthy proven reserves to call on when needed.

5. it's obviously clumsy Jewish poisoner agitprop..
However, these things maybe wouldn't carry the credibility that they do if Israel hadn't had to release the head of Hamas, Yassin, because they tried to poison him to death.

6. Seems unlikely... but the timing couldn't be worse for Israel...
After all, they just got through with talking about exiling him or killing him and suddenly he becomes gravely ill? Does it matter if Israel did poison Arafat if the Palestinian people THINK they did?

That is why the Israelis should learn to negotiate instead of threaten. Every threat is taken seriously by the people being killed almost daily by Israeli soldiers and thus even if Israel doens't carry out its threats, if anything should go wrong, like a natural disease or accident with a rifle, the Palestinians will refuse to believe Israeli claims of innocence.

If Arafat dies and there is a Palestinian belief that Israel killed him, it will be Israel's own fault.

7. But of course Israel poisoned Arafat
The only question that remains is was it before or after
the flechette rounds loaded with blackbox voting machines like
the ones used in the Jenin massacre were fired from the invisible
black helicopters that the Massoud fly by remote control while they
delay food shipments so they have time to slip in a micky finn.
