PA television: Israel will be destroyed
http://www.jpost.com/servlet/Satellite?pagename=JPost/P/Section/SectionIndex&cid=1008596981749
Oct. 12, 2003

By MICHAEL FREUND
Taken from Palestinian TV
(PMW)

The official television station of the Palestinian Authority has begun broadcasting a video clip depicting the destruction of Israel and its replacement by a Palestinian state stretching from the Jordan River to the Mediterranean Sea, Palestinian Media Watch (PMW) reports.

PMW Director Itamar Marcus said the clip, which was broadcast twice within the past week, demonstrates that PA TV "continues to promote and glorify violence."

The video shows hands clutching stones springing up at various points on a map of Israel, he said, followed by the Palestinian flag emerging and covering the entire area of the Jewish state.

"so much for peace"

1. Arafat commands...
...the people do. He's the only millionaire around. Arafat doesn't oppose Hamas and Islamic Jihad. It is not even indirect responsibility. It is active complicity. Arafat is dicetly responsible for more than 760 attacks within Israel's borders, and 19085 total attacks including the administered territories.

Criticism of the PA is Likud right wing. Criticism of Likud is left-wing. Politically promoted blindness.

actually made these films and forced the, oh so innocent, Arafat run TV station to broadcast them. Get a reality check!

12. ???
Look - this is what I think.

The PA television program is advocating resistance against Israel. So? I don't automatically suspect that every television program depicting people throwign rocks against Israel advocates it's destruction.

Yes, the show is propaganda. But the way it's being advertised is also propaganda.

30. It depends on what you mean by founders

In one sense, the founders were the innocent survivors of the Holocaust who sincerely believed that the UN was acting out of altruism, and many of whom probably never really thought much about the people who lived on the land they were going to.

It would certainly have been possible to establish a real state, in Palestine, without a Naqba and really and truly for the benefit of Europeans who wanted to emigrate for religious and emotional reasons.

But that is not what was done, and the US and the UK were indeed motivated by the possibilities of natural resource exploitation in the region, as well as a wish to avoid large numbers of Jewish refugees settling in the US and the UK.

This was in 1948, and at that time, racial apartheid was the law in the US, and anti-Jewish sentiment was the rule rather than the exception in both the US and the UK, and despite all the propaganda about saving the poor Jews from Hitler, it was quite difficult at that time for a Jewish family in Anytown, USA to even get a membership in the local country club so the kids could swim in the pool.

Remember that as late as 1960, a hot topic was whether John F. Kennedy was "electable" because he was a Roman Catholic, so the WASP supremacy thing was not directed at Jews alone, but neither did they gain an exemption from it merely because of WWII.

That is the history of the United States. There are many people alive who remember "colored" restrooms and water fountains, and "restricted" clubs and even suburban housing developments.

Deleting posts about it does not erase those memories.

38. LOL well, there was that too. In fact, many people will tell you

That it was not until the 67 war that the US realization of what a useful little guard dog they could develop over there, and they have some good arguments.

The US foreign policy in general, not just as regards Israel, really came into its fullness in the wake of WW2 - you know the famous Eisenhower warning about the military industrial complex - which has been of course ignored.

And when you consider that weapons, intoxicants and human flesh have been the most profitable businesses everywhere since the beginning of time, I guess we should not be too amazed.

40. No, I disagree...
Truman's early recogniton of Israel (against the wishes of the State Department) was based on a wish to stop the Soveits from controlling it. It was a connection to the Jewish world, and therefore very valuable, both for domestic policy conceerns and political power in the foreign policy sphere.

45. I agree with you about Truman, I don't know about 67 because

so much of the making of foreign policy has always had to do with huge financial transactions and projections and erections that are not public record, especially in the preliminary negotiating and confabulation that goes on - and that is the case with all industries, not just oilnguns.

My opinion is that Truman's dance was both a continuation of, and probably based on his knowledge of, the economic gains realized by the defense industry in WW2, and a catalyst for a broader recognition and acceptance and hopping onto the gravy train that occurred between then and 67 and then had another big growth spurt then.

The thing that I keep coming back to is that the only way to salvage anything, the only way to give Israel a chance to be the nation that the people deserve - and I firmly believe that the majority of the people in Israel - and when I say majority I am counting ALL the people who live in Israel - not just the elite Russian mafia, but the poor people, the Ethiopians, the school teachers, the non-Europeans - sincerely want a peaceful, respectable country that belongs to THEM and not to a handful of rich guys.

Which is what most of the people in the US want, too, and the only way that either will get it is if the US is turned on its ear, oil co's nationalized, PNACers hauled off (safely and humanely) to the Hague, and international monitors brought in to hold free and open elections where EVERYBODY votes, which would probably not occur until after a transitional period as a UN protectorate and a constitutional convention to insert some very toothy language regarding a Living Wage and a Right to Housing and health care and a complete set of turbo dentures for the Anti-Trust laws.

And a location change for the UN. To Lapland, maybe. Let's give the Saami people an economic boost, up reindeer jerky sales.

41. As late as 2003
it is a hot topic if Lieberman is "electable" because he is a Jew.

If Israel was "created" in 1948 then why were there so many people already there? And why did it have to fight a war?

You look at history through a crescent shaped lens.

29. I understand why it is forbidden to criticize US policy on Israel

Because it is one issue where both Democrat and Republican parties speak with one voice, and because the policy spans administrations back predating the creation of "Israel" by the "United Nations," it is therefore the official policy of the Democratic party, and it is understandable that there would be some sensitivity toward any comments that might be unflattering to an official party postiion.

It is, however, the truth, and the people of Israel deserve better, and as a matter of fact, the people of Palestine and every other country in the region and the United States deserve better.

Every poster on this board deserves better, and deleting posts, burning books, or burning people has never been effective in changing history, merely postponing awareness of it.

33. There are many accounts of events between 1917 and now, Yang

You can read them. You can read about UK-US adventurism in the region even before Balfour.

You can defend the policy, if you like. The energy and defense industries who benefit from it certainly do, and so do the politicians of both parties who benefit from the money from AIPAC and other relevant PACs.

If the policy displeases you, neither its history nor its continuation is affected by your demands that statements of its existence be deleted.

36. I asked you specifically
to back up your claim that the US government has supported Israel for as long as you say.

My assertion is that you know it isn't true and are trying to dupe the less informed on the board.

Prove me wrong. Show me when US government of Israel started.

Truman administration?

Supported Saudi Arabia with money and arms during the 1948 war. He also made anti semitic staements but who doesn't?

Eisenhower?

Supported egypt against both Israel and England. sent nominal aid to Israel. Very cozy with oil states.

Kennedy?

Sent some AA missiles.

LBJ?

Nominal aid. No support during 1967 war. Very cozy with oil states.

Nixon?
It appeared Israel might lose the 1973 war so Nixon sent significant aid to Israel for the first time in US history. This brought about the oil embargo so Nixon sold f-15s to the saudis. Nixon believed in triangulation, he needed to give aid to both sides so he could leverage them against each other.

Carter?
Brokered peace by negotiating the return of a large amount of land that conatained oil from Israel to Egypt.

Reagan?
More rhetoric than action on anything. Aid did increase.

Bush 1?
His dad made millions killing Jews how pro Israel do you think he was? Gave aid did nothing. did however send troops to defend a monarchy whose only purpose was as a port for BP.

Clinton?
recognized Arafat. Negotitated a reasonable deal for both sides that both sides ended up rejecting. Got Israel out of over 80% of the West Bank before the second intifada started.

Bush 2?
Nearly retarded moran that has difficulty finding Israel on a map. (kept thinking it was Greenland)

43. so how much does that LACK of SUPPORT amount to?
over the years, it must be a small fortune by now...

besides who was the nation that recognized israel 11 minutes after its creation?

May 14, 1948: late morning eastern standard time (late afternoon in Palestine): David Ben-Gurion, Israel's first prime minister, reads a "Declaration of Independence," which proclaims the existence of a Jewish state called Israel beginning on May 15, 1948, at 12:00 midnight Palestine time (6:00 p.m., May 14, 1948,eastern standard time).

May 14, 6 p.m. eastern standard time (12:00 midnight in Palestine): The British mandate for Palestine expires, and the state of Israel comes into being.

May 14, 6:11 p.m. eastern standard time: The United States recognizes Israel on a de facto basis. The White House issues the following statement: "This Government has been informed that a Jewish state has been proclaimed in Palestine, and recognition has been requested by the provisional government thereof. The United States recognizes the provisional government as the de facto authority of the State of Israel." To see a color copy of this document click here.
