Hamas wants peace, dialogue with America
The Hamas government's Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ahmad Yousef called for face-to-face dialogue with the American government and the people of the United States.

Coming on the heels of news that the Hamas government had sent letters to the Obama administration outlining its official policy on Israel, resistance and borders, the move came as a landmark in the de facto government position vis-a-vis the United States.

Speaking at a news conference alongside Gaza Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh and a delegation of American citizens promoting international conciliation, Yousef credited the delegation with the public announcement.

"The delegation spoke to us about the Palestinian reconciliation issue," and the place of the United States in pushing for Palestinian justice, Yousef said, noting that Haniyeh remained insistent that the US give up its veto when it came to Palestine, saying it stalled national reconciliation.

"America should stop interfering and let the Palestinians achieve reconciliation starting with the implementation of the Egyptian proposal," Yousef related as Haniyeh's stance on the matter.
