'Israel has opened the gate to hell'
Israel's assassination of Hamas spiritual leader Sheikh Ahmed Yassin was described as "stupid" and reckless by world leaders and press commentators on Tuesday who warned that the killing would likely lead to further bloodshed in the Middle East.

One of the strongest condemnations came from the European Union's External Affairs Commissioner Chris Patten who said Israel's killing of the 67-year-old wheelchair-bound cleric during an Israeli air strike on Monday was downright "stupid".

Speaking on BBC radio, Patten said Yassin's death would only fan the flames of violence between Israelies and Palestinians -- and that the United States needs to play a bigger role in bringing peace to the region.

3. Easy,
with a military strike, it is war, not murder. The sheik was a military target. And, hey, he wanted to be a 'martyr'. Sharon did him a favor.

7. No they don't
If the 'children' are attacking them, they are entitled to defend themselves.

8. you mean, Palestinian children target the IDF...
(since the IDF targets Palestinian children, can you explain why they just didn't go for an easy kill here?)...

Soldiers catch Palestinian boy, 12, wearing explosive belt...

Israel Defense Forces paratroopers caught a Palestinian boy, aged 12, wearing an explosive belt at the Hawara roadblock south of Nablus in the West Bank on Wednesday afternoon.

Sappers used a remote-controlled robot to remove the belt from the boy's body and then safely detonated it in a controlled explosion.

The boy was taken in for questioning.

The army believes that the boy was meant to detonate the belt near the soldiers or near the nearby army base.

The IDF commander at the roadblock told Army Radio on Wednesday that the youth had run toward the soldiers and intended to blow himself up next to the troops.

...

Just last week, soldiers found an explosive charge on a cart pushed by a 10-year-old Palestinian boy at the same roadblock.

The soldiers released the boy after it transpired that he did not know what was in the bag he was carrying through the barricade.

...

According to defense establishment figures, since the beginning of the intifada, there have been 29 Palestinians under the age of 18 who carried out suicide attacks, and 22 others under 18 who carried out "sacrificial attacks" - in which they opened fire and were killed - in the territories. Forty others under 18 were arrested on suspicion of intending to carry out attacks.
