(shortened long headline)

IOF Wounds Several Palestinians in Badras Village, Demolishes Houses in Jerusalem

Israeli occupation forces (IOF) wounded Monday a number of Palestinian civilians in Badras Village, west of Ramallah City, Palestinian medical sources said.

The sources confirmed that a number of local inhabitants were wounded with rubber-coated steel bullets and tear gas inhalation after Israeli soldiers opened their fire on the village while imposing a curfew.

Meanwhile, Israeli bulldozers destroyed at least three houses in the occupied east Jerusalem.

The house of Saleh Al-Razem, of the Hanina neighborhood, north of Jerusalem, in which 13 live, was demolished today by an Israeli military bulldozer, under the pretext of building without permission.

Local sources confirmed that such demolitions are intended at creating demographic changes for the interest of Israeli settlers.

before immediately crying "propaganda" -- but then, if you did that, your humanitarian sensibilities might actually be woken from their slumber causing you to *gasp* sympathize with the victims of Israeli terrorism and aggression.

And we can't have that now, can we.

Taking 'college protest' to a new level this fall
S.F. school will offer a degree in activism

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/c/a/2003/08/12/BA298347.DTL

San Francisco's New College of California is offering something for the socially conscious this fall that they'd never get marching in the streets:

a college degree in activism.

For $5,500 to $6,000 a semester, the 32-year-old Mission District school is offering bachelor's and master's humanities degrees with a concentration in "activism and social change." While schools from Vermont to Santa Cruz boast versions of do-gooding curricula, degrees in activism are hard to come by.

"Students can shape their own (activist) program at other schools," said Michael Baer, senior vice president at the American Council on Education and former provost at Northeastern University. "But to have it all together -- the theoretical and the practical -- under one roof and labeled as such is somewhat rare."

.....................................................

im sure the islamofascists of the world could use your
services.

17. Standwatie.....good to see you again.
i see you've recovered well.lol

well, using mindless terror especially under the guise
of religious fundamentalism pretty much sums up
the situation israel finds itself in.(see ISLAMIC JIHAD)

the palestinians should HAVE THEIR OWN COUNTRY.But sadly
arafat and his hand-puppet mazen dont really want to get
rid of these thugs.(but we discussed that before).

Now lets get it on the record Standwatie.

what is your opinion of the suicide attacks that kill
innocent israelis??
do you think these are legitimate attacks??

i cant wait to hear your opinion.

I thought it might at least be interesting to hear how elements of Palestinian politics could be thought of as fascist, I can think of a number of reasons but they all have their opposite element in Israel so if you want to call Hamas "Islamofascist" based on religious reactionism and fundamentaly undemocratic traits, you would also have to acknowledge Shas as "Judeofascist".

If it's a reliance on common heritage as an overiding political theme and demonization of another you could tar the entire enterprise of Zionism and Palestinian Nationalism as "fascist" but Israel would come out worse.

These are all topics that don't really favorably compare with Israel and I'd recomend in the future staying away from "Islamofascist" since it was a phrase coined by Hitchens to describe the Taliban (and probably a fairly accurate assessment for once from Hitchens) but he wouldn't shy away from the term Judeofascist to describe Israeli segregationism so at least he is consistent.

Of course for that reason we turn to the tiresome question of the Bombers who make up some tiny fraction of Palestinian society but always relied upon to justify all the draconian Israeli racist actions. That's one reason the right-wing loves Israel so much, they are just dying to try that sort of stuff out here, I mean 1% of American Blacks are murderers, right? I'm sure right there under the surface there is an incredible lust to have the same sort of home demolishing, run them all out on a rail back to Africa sort of power that Israel gets away with.

15. So where exactly is the 'opinion' in this particular piece?
Destroying people's homes and wounding civilians is a "biased opinion" in your rationalization now?

The lengths some will go to defend Israel's campaign of dispossession and ethnic cleansing never ceases to amaze

19. As I have said
Once a writer chooses to set aside balance and objective terms (like the IDF) and makes up new terms and doesn't quote both sides, that is a biased piece of commentary and opinion.

6. More on this story
More House Demolitions in Jerusalem

Monday, August 18, 2003

The past few weeks since the road map came into effect and
Israel has been constrained from demolishing Palestinian
homes in the West Bank and Gaza have witnessed a dramatic
surge of demolitions in "east" Jerusalem – ten in this week
alone. This morning (Monday, August 18) the members of
ICAHD's rebuilding work camp witnessed the demolition of
three homes – in Shuafat, Beit Hanina and Isawiyeh – and the
arrest of Jeff Halper, ICAHD's Coordinator, and activist
Linda Livni, who resisted the demolition. All were demolished
by the Jerusalem municipality. They violated not only the
fundamental human rights of the families for housing and
international law that forbids house demolitions in occupied
territories, but also the Road Map initiative.

The first home to be demolished belonged to the Muheiyadeh
family of Shuafat – Saleh, Iman and their ten children.
Shuafat has been subjected to a rash of demolitions over the
past several years as Israeli construction has steadily
impinged on the community, reducing it to a truncated ghetto.
A large ultra-orthodox neighborhood (tellingly
called "Shuafat Ridge" until the residents demanded the "Arab
name" be changed to "Solomon's Heights) has been built on a
large section of Palestinian land; a major highway runs
through the village; and a number of roads have been planned
that criss-cross Shuafat to unite the massive Jewish
settlements to the east and west of the city and the light
railroad that will serve them. Despite the fact that the
Muheiyadehs' request for a building permit is pending, their
modest home was nevertheless demolished.

“The Israeli authorities claim the houses were illegal and
that they are merely enforcing the law," says Jeff
Halper. "But Israel cynically uses law, planning procedures
and administration to pursue its political agenda of
confining Palestinians to small islands of "east" Jerusalem,
eventually driving them out of the city altogether. Laws are
easy to enact: no one has been subject to more discriminatory
legislation and housing discrimination than Jews – all of
it "legal" on the surface. But when law is disconnected from
justice, when it becomes merely a tool of political
repression, it undermines the very foundations of equality
and democracy. Israel claims to be the 'only democracy in the
Middle East,' yet it is the only country in the world that
systematically demolishes the homes of a particular national
group. None of the people in the families whose homes were
demolished today had been charged with any criminal activity,
none were accused of terrorism; they were simply people whose
only crime was to build a home on land coveted by Israel.
When Israel pursues a transparent policy of ethnic cleansing,
it endangers the very moral basis of its existence."

8. Wow
Another "unbiased" news source. LOL

It's from the Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions.

"ICAHD is a non-violent, direct-action group originally established to oppose and resist Israeli demolition of Palestinian houses in the Occupied Territories."

More fair and balanced reporting.

9. Wow, indeed
Israel continues it's campaign of dispossession and ethnic cleansing and the only problem you have is that a human rights group is biased in favor of human rights.
