NYT: 500 Conspiracy Buffs Meet to Seek the Truth of 9/11

http://www.nytimes.com/2006/06/05/us/05conspiracy.html?ex=1149652800&en=970531c8d07f5986&ei=5087%0A

500 Conspiracy Buffs Meet to Seek the Truth of 9/11

CHICAGO, June 4 — In the ballroom foyer of the Embassy Suites Hotel, the two-day International Education and Strategy Conference for 9/11 Truth was off to a rollicking start.

In Salon Four, there was a presentation under way on the attack in Oklahoma City, while in the room next door, the splintered factions of the movement were asked — for sake of unity — to seek a common goal.

In the foyer, there were stick-pins for sale ("More gin, less Rummy"), and in the lecture halls discussions of the melting point of steel. "It's all documented," people said. Or: "The mass media is mass deception." Or, as strangers from the Internet shook hands: "Great to meet you. Love the work."

Such was the coming-out for the movement known as "9/11 Truth," a society of skeptics and scientists who believe the government was complicit in the terrorist attacks. In colleges and chat rooms on the Internet, this band of disbelievers has been trying for years to prove that 9/11 was an inside job.

to be a "researcher."

Then again, I suppose "collecting every snippet of a news article that supports your position and inveighing against every snippet that contradicts it" constitutes a kind of research method...

It came out 4 1/2 years ago after the Afganistan invasion. The tape wasnt supposed to be for public consumption as Bin Laden was talking to a small group in a house just after the attacks. It was played for days on the cable outlets. He wasnt lying just talking softly like he always does. You can find it and translate it yourself. Everyone that listened to it who translated it translated it the same way. Whats so hard to understand that we have enemies that want to kill us? He and his group are only one of them but the only one that doesnt have a country officially behind them to take the wrath of the aftermath. Well they did have Afganistan.

So stop hitting me with hearsay, and give me something I can use. I know there were tapes that purported to depict Bin laden. I can't speak for their accuracy or legitimacy. If you have a reason to believe they are legitimate, then let me know what they are. All I know is that the people who produced those tapes are the same people who have lied about everything else - so why should they be telling the truth now?

Please.

12. Why does OBL flip-flop?
"I would like to assure the world that I did not plan the recent attacks, which seems to have been planned by people for personal reasons," bin Laden's statement said.
http://archives.cnn.com/2001/US/09/16/inv.binladen.denial/

Here is an analysis one of the more recent tapes:
MAMOUN FANDY: Right, but this particular tape is not terribly inspiring, just looking at the language of it. This is the first tape of bin Laden that has no single verse from the Koran. It does not have the flowery language of Arabic.

It seems to me that it is written in English first, and then translated into Arabic. It is very western style of tape. It is not very characteristic of bin Laden, at least it tells me that the non-Arabic speaking within the al-Qaida network are taking over the organization --

Read David Ray Griffin's "New Pearl Harbor".

If you need a nudge, then ask yourself why the hijackers came from Saudi Arabia, UAE, Egypt and Lebanon, the finances came from SA, UAE and Pakistan, the planning was done in Pakistan...and yet these countries are all Bushco "allies".

Bushco then attacks Iraq, which had nothing to with 9/11. Smell a set-up?

Commission Report 10 years after it was pubiished? We didn't know about the Bay of Pigs set-up. Everyone thought Cuban-Americans were just unfortunate refugees from communism. And we didn't know that there was such strong support for the Vietnam war by weapons manufacturers and some military. And we learned in the last decade the degree of 'activism' that some people go to to rush back into power. Who knew that our government leaders would stack up the most bizarre list of curious and indefensible contradictions and facts that lent overwhelming support for a motive and for credible contradictions. In other words, we don't know enough immediately after something happens and we are all in a huff of outrage that anyone would affront on in this way and it was easy to blieve it all - at first.

See post #16. It's all about how much we trust our leaders. Not much for some. They have not earned respect and credibility.

an analysis all the more devastating for the fact that it's a standup comedy

Comedy is an amazing medium. Sometimes just pointing out the obvious that you
never recognized is hilarious.

in that video? I thought he was supposed to be hooked up to one, yet somehow he manages to traverse mountains under the rain of U.S. bombs and still make videos to send to Uncle Sammy. In this day and age, it is possible to do anything with video. Just ask Forrest Gump, I believe he had a meeting with President Kennedy.

16. It is obvious that our government leaders,at one time tried to give us the
impression that they cared for we, the citizens. But when you ask yourselves why our government leaders have not cared for all the Central Americans that we killed and why we go in and remove a democratically elected leader of a another country and just fly him away, and when we look at the U.S. corporate and banking thievery of countries all over the world -

- and then if we look at the rights that are yanked away from us every day, the endless executive orders and readings, the increasing secrecy and locks on data, the spying, the lie of a war, the massacres, torment, and torture of many innocent people and the destruction of their country along with the theft of their oldest treasures of thier heritage -

- and then someone questions why anyone would hesitate to think that our government leaders wouldn't kill our own people in this country -

- I say you have to be crazy to think they wouldn't!

"Whatever one thinks of the claim that the state would plan, then execute, a scheme to murder thousands of its own, there was something to the fact that more than 500 people — from Italy to Northern California — gathered for the weekend at a major chain hotel near the runways of O'Hare International."

17. Yes the bias is shameful, but this story is a breakthrough!
Remember the famous saying attributed to Gandhi:

"First they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you, then you win."

Whatever you personally think might have happened 9/11, it's simply unreasonable for an informed person not to come to the conclusion that the official story is bunk. And over time more and more people are realizing this, and the 9/11 "truth movement" just continues to grow. In fact, in recent years a fair number of respected scientists have begun to collaborate and call for a non-partisan investigation.

In other words, "mouthpieces for Empire" like the NY Times can no longer ignore it. So they've shifted into "ridicule" phase.

29. Just forget for a moment....
about the specifics of the events, and think hard about the results of that day. Out of four airliners, there is not a big enough piece to identify it as being part of a Boeing, unless you count the dubious two foot scrap at the pentagon. Out of hundreds of passengers, flight crews, and hijackers, there is not ONE piece of flesh, a hand, foot, arm, or leg that one could actually look at and identify it as human. Two steel skycrapers collapsed within minutes of each other, although throughout history, there has never been a collapse of steel framed buildings due to fire. Towers were built to withstand a plane impact. Why did the first tower to be hit collapse before the second tower, although it was hit almost dead center, and the second building was hit to the side, expelling the majority of it's fuel? Why did Bush sit on his ass reading "My Pet Goaat" for seven minutes, followed by further delays to Air Force One, by taking a photo-op with the school admin. Instead of addressing the American people, why did he feel it necessary to go to Nebraska, and not show his face til the next day. Why couldn't the air defense system intercept at least one of these hijacked Boeings when it took them fifteen minutes to catch and escort Payne Stewart's jet? Out of multiple on-site and remote cameras at the Pentagon, we get no video that shows a plane slamming into the Pentagon, other than a few blurred frames that show nothing definitive? That's just the start. I have to marvel and say "HOLY SHIT!", at anyone who doesn't think the answer to ANY of those questsions is not important to the victims, their families, and the American people. And even if it turned out to be sheer incompetence, there should still be a call from the citizens to demand a new investigation, if for nothing else, to let the victim's families know who, and why there were multiple promotions and medals given instead of accountability. It's no wonder they've been able to do what they have done to our country. Just part of my o2, given with a healthy dose of disdain for a lethargic public in general. Thanks.

33. Why Should We Believe Them?
Edited on Mon Jun-05-06 12:48 PM by november3rd
Is the Bush Administration and the US Government--especially the intelligence services--capable of telling the American public the truth about anything?

There's no way three buildings at the WTC all completely collapsed in a matter of a couple hours because of two airplane collisions at the top.

Plus, if those planes weren't shot down or at least guided away from the collision site, then the airforce officers and air defense personnel, Richard Myers, and above all don Rumsfeld, need to be put on trial and punished to the fullest extent of the law.

You can't have it both ways. Either it's a plot or Myers, Tenet and Rumsfeld go to jail for incompetence and gross dereliction of duty.

repeatedly on major and minor events. If they can destroy a country and families .... well why not. ALL the motives were with them. Starting with the Pearl Harbor remark which is in writing and the dictatorship joke.

What really gets them mad is that truth prevails. What is Bill Kristol fussing about (as reported this morning) - not so much the horror of a massacre by our soldiers, but the fact that it is being covered in the media. He didn't fuss at all about a four month cover-up. He's fussing that the cover-up is over.

Bill Kristol - high up PNAC operative.

I won't be surprised if he's one of the unfortunate neocons who is convicted and hanged, along with don Rumsfeld, Dictator Cheney, Canyoubelieveher? Rice and Goinggoing Gonzales.

35. by definition the official version is a conspiracy..
and a 'theory' ..does that make the 911 commission conspiracy buffs?

the official version is a fairytale; but then when was validity ever important to americans.

66. The alternative to "Conspiracy Theory" is "Lone Gunman Theory"
We're pretty damn sure that more than one person did 9/11.

Question: Which group(s) are guilty? Of planning, executing--or just standing aside & Letting It Happen.

'Whatever one thinks of the claim that the state would plan, then execute, a scheme to murder thousands of its own...'

Nice piece of propaganda there, the state didn't plan anything - it would only have to be between OBL and the BFEE. 'Thousands of its own'...no, sorry but WE are not considered as equals to the BFEE. If that was the case then we would have NEVER started an unjustified war in Iraq. People do matter, just not to the assholes running the country.

Once again, the NYT performs fellatio in public on the BFEE's willy. How do these mediawhores sleep at night?

I thought it was an article on those who believe and accept the "official" story.

51. ALLEN FEUER??? An eirie name for a writer. Follow his works and more
meaning of who he is will reveal he just may be another
Judith Miller trying to contort the minds of the public.

This story was written because the populous and majority
now think the Gov't committed premeditated murder.

And they did.

This article is evidence of their squirming!

63. Yes
let's rejoice that the victims of 9/11 died so that Iraqi civilians could be massacred.

Yes some of the 9/11 truth movement are loonies and some are self-important but at least these people are putting their heads above the parapet, making their voices heard and asking questions.

64. the that made me crazy and still does is
the fact that nobody wants to talk about this...

http://www.editio-defacto.de/editio-defacto/HTML/BILDERFOLGE/Bilder11September/Bild1.html

no politician in Europe or the USA or some where else.

emperor without clothes is all I can think and cowards every where!!!

I made flyers with questions and a foto and showed up in a visit of Kanzler Schroeder in my
voting district...NOBODY wanted the truth.

Now it seems to get better step by step. But our new "chancelor" Angie Merkel is blowing the wrongest "pipe" of all. As an American trainee once did....

and this time we will be involved into the next effort to dominate the world.

75. say what?

I thought you people couldn't get coverage.

Oh, but you could get coverage from that whitey white white paper, the New York Times, which has been viciously hunting my family for years and will NEVER pay us back a dime, those stalkers.
