Need some DU Input: My C'mas Decorations. Wreath with Black Bow
Edited on Fri Dec-03-04 07:40 PM by KoKo01
and a Huge Cut out of a Dove of Peace w/olive branch. And, under that a banner in "Gothic Print" Jesus, Prince of Peace is Born!"

Here's my problem and why I need input from DU'ers. I live in a really "Stepford Subdivision" in the South. This would really call attention to our house once again because we had every Dem Candidate/Judge/Senator/House Member sign on our lawn before the election.

I'm worried in one way that my dislplay with a spotlight on black bowed wreath on door and huge "Dove of Peace" with just a few white lights on shrubs will be SOOOOOOOO OUT OF MAINSTREAM that I will look like a "Freak Show."

Should I do this? Or, not bother.. Will Theresa and Edwards Family be in sympathy with me? Or should I do my traditional greens and red bows and pretend that nothing has happened even though I'm in mourning and so sick about the last "selection" that I can't even think about "playing the game," of "fitting in."

What should I do? Am I being too OTT and risk alienating folks. I don't really like anyone in my neighborhood...so doing this would really kind of "cheer" my rebellious side in pointing attention to the Killing/Devastation in Iraq and how my Religious Neighbors and I disagree about what "Jesus" is about. ??????

1. You are NOT too "over the top" - Jesus IS the Prince of Peace
A black ribbon and a white dove on a wreath? It sounds classy and to the point. If anyone asks you about it, be sure to quote the verse where Jesus is called the Prince of Peace.

You are not too over the top. If you put your wreath up, please post a picture for us to see.

I might even steal your idea...

7. Blue should be the only light we hang this year. Every Chris tree light
every House ornament light every Icicle BLUE.

3. I feel the same way you do.
I see no harm in a black bow. I almost put them on the Christmas tree myself. I was afraid my kid wouldn't understand

4. Do what you choose to do
What your neighbors think should be totally irrelevant. Do you really believe they are mulling over your opinion of there Christmas season activities. If you piss them off, then that will just be there little anal conservative problem, won't it?

5. Choose a really nice blue bow
Blue is the color of peace. Perhaps a black wingband on the dove would best convey your message.

8. Blue Bow is interesting along with Blue light. I'm more into Black as

color of Mourning...but choosing the "blue" might make a statement that fits better than throwing "The Bird" to my neighbors...much as I think they are clueless...if I make it "soft and pretty" I might get more folks to understand what I'm trying to say. I like the idea of black tips on the wings of my Dove. I'm going to try to do it in white styrofoam with a pix from a Google. I'll have to hand do it..and I'm good at "copying" not so good at "freeform artistic renditions." The black wing tips would give depth and meaning to it.

I was thinking of a GIANT DOVE CUT OUT...with a separate spotlight..not just a dove on the wreath. And if I could do a "curved banner in Gothic" that would hold up to rain, I'd like to do that.

Can I do it from my "Print Shop" and then take it to Kinko's? Does anyone know if I could get a five foot banner from Print Shop downloaded to floppy and take it there and get them to do it in a way that won't run or bleed in the rain?

Excuse my typo's...I got this idea and my fingers are faster than my brain...
