..rather like they did to Sprectre in the Senate.
Spectre dared speak to the possiblility that he might, just might, not actively work to advance some extreme anti-choice wingnut judges. By threatening his chance to be Senate Judiciary Chairmen, they forced him to make a million concessions which effectively neutered him.
Now that Spectre has sworn up and down to push Bush's talibanish judges, he is boxed into being a toady for the White House and radical Republicans.
Annan, I doubt, is anywhere near as spineless. But I sense this is actually an orchestrated effort by the Bush administration to threaten the UN General Secretary's job to the point that he becomes compromised and agrees to play nice with the Bush administration.
Oh, the Bush administration will claim they have nothing to do with this jihad against Annan, but I don't believe it for one minute. Norm Coleman wouldn't do anything to attract this much attention without a wink and a nod from his masters.
My guess, this probably won't work, and when it doesn't the Republicans and Bush Administration will calculate that they'd be better off with someone else and begin to really push Annan to resign. That will be, they figure, the second best option. Demonstrate they can bring down a UN General Secretary, and perhaps the next one will do the Bush Administration's bidding.
Just my opinion anyway.
