Dear XXXXX,
Our nation united behind President Bush on Election Day because of his resolve in winning the War on Terror, his record of growing our economy and because he was the first President in recent history to campaign for a second term with a clear vision for the future. Your dedication to President Bush's agenda enabled him to establish a mandate by receiving more votes than any presidential candidate in American history, and he has already begun delivering on his plans for making America safer, stronger and better.
The President campaigned on reforming our nation's intelligence gathering, and the House of Representatives passed his intelligence reform plan Tuesday night by an overwhelming vote of 336 to 75. The Senate followed suit on Wednesday, passing the legislation by a vote of 89 to 2.
The naysayers who displayed their relentless pessimism every day of the campaign spent the past month arguing President Bush would not be able to pass intelligence reform. While you were out raking leaves, shopping for the holidays or celebrating Thanksgiving with your family, the President's opponents were out attacking him as lacking "political capital." This week's overwhelming votes speak for themselves.
The passage of intelligence reform also shows the critical role a strong party plays in helping the President implement the agenda you and I worked tirelessly to advance. This election was the most important of our lifetimes not because Republicans gained power, but because Republicans gained the opportunity to enact the policies needed to keep our nation moving forward.
The stakes could not be higher, and it is vital that you continue supporting the Republican National Committee. Strengthening Social Security, reforming our legal system and creating a simpler and fairer tax code are necessary, but will not occur without your continued backing of the RNC. The President needs a strong party behind him to implement the positive agenda that drove his campaign, and the RNC needs active grassroots supporters to expand its strength.
Last month's election victory occurred because of grassroots supporters just like you, and the President's legislative victories over the next four years will be because of supporters just like you.
Sincerely, Ed Gillespie Ed Gillespie Chairman, Republican National Committee
