What is it we stand for?
We stand for many things but I think one of the most important is the TRUTH. We're not some leftist wacko group-- we want the truth and we want accountability.

Yet these things make us... liberals??

The truth has become a partisan issue??

That's outrageous!!

4. The truth about what?
And in what context?

One of the reasons I come here (and some other sites) is I like a diversity in ideas and views, even when I don't agree. But how relative is truth? I think it depends on the goals one desires to achieve and judging how certain actions affect said goal.

The left and right say they have similar goals - freedom, jobs, strong country, and so on and so forth. Judging the results of actions and how they aid in getting to that is where we must have honesty and long term analysis.

Is freedom gained by restricting rights, and how much so (off hand example from recent news: Smoking in bars. Should people who own them have the right to decide, should patrons have the right to only go to bars that do/don't allow it, or should someone in washington decide what you can do in a business you own and built with your own money - and should they be able to limit choice/freedom for your own good; similar in ways I suppose to how some religious groups want to limit your choices for your own good)?

An extreme example to be sure - but one which is seen often as a right/left issue. What is the Truth? How is it gauged, and who decides what truth is in such cases??

6. We are
Just found a fantastic quote:

The one pervading evil of democracy is the tyranny of the
majority, or rather of that party, not always the majority,
that succeeds, by force or fraud, in carrying elections.

Lord Acton, 1834-1902
