Sen. Reid's new power may shut down Yucca
I guess Washington won't be too happy about this ... sorry this is a washington times source page.

(UPI) -- Shifting power on Capitol Hill is casting doubt on whether nuclear waste will be transferred on schedule from Washington State to Nevada.

The Seattle Times reported Monday the ascension Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., as Democratic leader puts him in a better position to stall or kill the project to move some 30,000 tons of high-level nuclear waste from Hanford, Wash., to Yucca Mountain, Nev.

1. Neavda deserves to get the waste
They voted for Bush, so now they can reap the consequences of their actions.

3. Who's THEY?
You're not seriously saying that because a few more people in Nevada voted for Bush than voted for Kerry, that millions of Kerry supporters deserve to be put in danger?

4. AND...
what about all the blue states the waste will be transported through? And what about people hundreds of years down the road who didn't have anything to do with the outcome of this election?

5. surely you don't mean that
393,372 people in NV voted Kerry (48%), and an additional 13,555 voted for someone other than Bush. Should they be punished as well?

Sheesh. This is good news.

7. The waste exists
Wishing it away will not make it go away.

Yucca Mountain is fairly remote and fairly stable (don't gimme that song and dance about the ancient faults et al. I have heard all the arguments, determined that they are wrong and support Yucca Mountain.)

Might as well put it in one place. It is the best solution that we currently have. Notwithstanding magic, we must do something.

9. Well Yucca Mountain is NOT safe
and the states that have waste can contain it in their own damn state until they come up with the technology to further reduce it. As for Nevada going red, yes it is a shame but in some counties Kerry did better % wise than Reid. They are coming along and if we want a Democratic Governor in 2006 Reid will have to make sure that he does stand up and do his job well. Those who insist on bad mouthing red states that were swing states are insulting the people who got out and campaigned like their life depended on it, and many many many did.

We did our best and better than the National Party thought in some districts and counties and we do NOT deserve Yucca Mountain. We are already gearing up for the 2006 election season, some of us never even took a break,. just shook off the shit from the election and continue to plow on. Don't even give me any crap about deserving the waste.
