Clearchannel to replace Air America with CNN News in San Diego!
I've just received this alarming bulletin (published in the USan Diego nion Tribune) indicating that CNN will replace Air America Radio News in San Diego starting January 1st! Let's mount a campaign right now to call and e-mail KLSD and Clear Channel and urge them to keep our only liberal news source in San Diego! -- Miriam

Excerpt from Union-Tribune:

Here's an update on Clear Channel Communications' selection of Fox News Radio as provider of national news for most of its news and talk radio stations across the country: Fox will not be the national news source for KLSD, said station program director Cliff Albert. He said Air America Radio News will be KLSD's national news source. After the first of the year, CNN will take Air America Radio News' place on KLSD, he added. Fox is the national source for KOGO, which is the local news gatherer for most other Clear Channel San Diego outlets

2. In another thread, someone said AA isn't payint its bills.
If that's the problem, maybe we can raise money locally to keep it on the air. Are you in SD? Would you contribute a few bucks to keep our liberal station on the air?

Liberal Air America Radio Gets Funding, Franken
Wed Dec 8, 2004 10:11 PM ET

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Liberal radio network Air America on Wednesday said it had extended a contract with comedian and commentator Al Franken and received an extra $13 million in funding to continue its national roll-out.

The network debuted in March with commentators seen as a liberal response to conservatives like Rush Limbaugh.

Air America Radio has options to keep Franken on through 2007 and also signed a new deal with commentator Randi Rhodes, new Chairman Rob Glaser told Reuters.

Air America has deals in 11 of the top 20 radio markets, with broadcasts in 40 markets nationwide and on satellite radio and the Internet at www.airamericaradio.com

15. Clear Channel answered my complaint.
Programming director Cliff Arnold claims CNN is not biased to the right and that its top-of-the-hour news is better than Air America Radio.

I sent a reply pointing out that CNN hasn't covered voting fraud in the presidential election and has omitted or skewed other stories.

Please help! Contact Mr. Arnold at carnold@clearchannel.com and tell you why CNN does not belong on a liberal radio station.

5. radio 940 am
in Ft. Lauderdale carries Air America Programming and the Ed Schultz show. I noticed this week that the news breaks are now covered by CNN instead of Air America although the stations still is a part of the Air America network. So I can only assume that maybe CNN is paying bigger bucks to Clear Channel to get the opportunity to carry the news on breaks.

6. Might just be the news portion, not the shows
Here in South Florida, CNN Radio News recently took over the news spots at the top of the hour that were initially done by Air America News, but the shows are intact. I preferred Air America News because it focused on progressive news stories, while CNN of course, only does the corporate news nonsense.

8. That's correct; it's just the news break
Our Air America/Clear Channel station (San Francisco) currently plays Air America breaks on weekdays and CNN breaks on weekends and late at night.

7. Probably just the news at the top of the hour
Edited on Thu Dec-23-04 04:36 PM by zulchzulu
I hope...anyway. That's what AAR is here in Madison. CNN news at the top of the hour...1 minute updates. It looks like they were using Fox News before, so it will actually be better. Granted, having AAR do the news (i.e. a person at the station with local news) is much better...but that's Clear Channel.

Otherwise, it would be pretty damn boring.

10. Here in San Francisco
as well. I found it ironic when I picked up on the fact that we are getting CNN news on what should be a liberal radio station. Kinda of sad, actually.

14. What the hell? Can't people read?
They are replacing the top of the hour news breaks with CNN, not the AAR shows. Get a grip and stop spreading half truths. AAR is here to stay.

16. It's not aceptable to have CNN news on AAR.
CNN won't report voting fraud or other important issues, and its "news" on political issues too often sounds like a White House press release.

Face reality, please.

17. You are missing the point
The original poster was stiring up nonsense saying AAR was being replaced. Yes, it is too bad they are replacing the newsbreaks. But the orginal poster is pushing the myth that AAR is going under.

18. CNN news is replacing Fox news...which is better?
Um....

Actually, CNN news is fine...big whoop...it's a freakin' minute...how in depth can ANY news be for that small amount. It's usually bad news about the war (if that makes you happy)....

19. On the internet, the news is reported by AAR at the top of the hour
on the radio here in Atlanta, the news is reported by CNN radio.

20. Screw Clear Channel
Are you actually surprised? They are so far up *'s a_s. Remember the "Our Leader" billboard? Refusing to play Dixie Chick's songs? Removing Howard Stern when he started criticizing *? Go to Sirius.
BTW - Who's High Pitch?
