Why are Dem. politicians so afraid to ATTACK Rep. politicians?
Edited on Sat Jan-08-05 01:50 PM by bobweaver
Why are the Dems so "civil" and "polite" and afraid to attack Reps., even personally?
The Reps. are constantly attacking and smearing the Dems. at every opportunity - and it hasn't hurt the Reps., in fact it has HELPED them win elections. Why won't the Dems play that game? Why do they insist on taking the "high road" even when it's now obvious that the "high road" leads to nowhere? The Repug. have clearly demonstrated, over and over and over again in the last 20 years, that dirty politics wins. So what's the problem? Why won't the Dems play the game? If they want to win, the Dems must play the same game that the Reps. are! The Dems are playing chess, while the Reps are playing "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas". How do you win a chess game, if your opponent drives over both you and the chessboard in a Humvee?

1. Exactly. If I ran the Democratic party...
I would launch a national ad campaign denouncing the "unprincipaled Republicans in power." I'd show all the ethical violations, how they let Delay off the hook, allow Blackwell carte blanche to break every law on the books, don't care about electoral fraud in Congress, etc. I'd run clips from yesterdays hearing in TV ads, or make a "best of" video and mail one to every registered voter in America, with a call to action. Add in a photocopy of the executive order authorizing torture, and a few other outrages for good measure. Urge that people who want America to stand for honesty, integrity, and values to vote Democratic--and only Democratic.

2. I agree, there's nothing to be gained by mincing words anymore.
Plain speech, from the heart and from the gut, will go a long way toward getting our party back on track. Being frank, being truthful, does NOT equate with being "mean" or "taking the low road." :)
