Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky has endorsed Governor Howard Dean for DNC Chair with a resounding vote of confidence: "Whatever he wants me to do, I'll do," said Rep. Schakowsky (D-IL).
Read her endorsement letter below:
I'm writing to you today to express my support for Howard Dean for Chair of the Democratic National Committee.
Regardless of whom you supported for the presidential nomination, I hope you'll agree that Howard Dean did this party a remarkable service. Howard Dean, in the earliest days of the campaign gave Democrats a voice. He spoke out loudly against the misguided policies of the Bush administration. Early on, he spoke out against the war in Iraq. His campaign embraced new technologies, and showed us how effective the internet can be as an organizing tool, and he inspired Democrats at every economic level to give.
As DNC chair, Dean would be in a position to clearly and confidently articulate the party platform. He has demonstrated his ability to fire up base Democratic voters, and his unique, straightforward campaign for President brought many new people into the party. And for those who believe we need to move the party to the center in order to win national elections, one only need to look across the aisle at the Republicans to know that that is not true. The right wingers have gained, not by tempering their message, but by self confidently asserting their extremist views over and over and over again.
We need a fighter to lead our Party, and Howard Dean has demonstrated his ability to embrace innovative campaign strategies, to motivate our core supporters, and he helped to innovate fundraising at a grass-roots level, bringing an unprecedented amount of new donors to the Party, as well as attracting more traditional Democratic party supporters. Most importantly, Howard Dean has the courage to take on the the Republican administration.
I hope you will also consider supporting the following women who are running for Vice Chair of the DNC: Lottie Shackelford is currently Vice Chair for Voter Participation and is running for re-election to that position; Linda Chavez Thompson, Executive Vice-President of the AFL-CIO, is also running for re-election as a Vice Chair; my friend Susan Turnbull, currently Deputy Chair of the DNC, is running for the third Vice Chair position to be held by a woman. These are great women who have a track record fighting for our Democratic and democratic values.
Thank you for serving as a leader of our great Democratic Party. With defining issues such as Social Security and tax "deform" on the agenda, and with you helping plan our electoral strategy, I look forward to major victories for Democrats and for all Americans in 2006.
Sincerely,
Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky
