Foreign Policy incompetence doesn't count when the target is an easy mark

I think that's one take home lesson of the Bush administration's Iraq debacle.

Think about it. The "sell" was an easy one. Put up a flimsy, failing bad guy and knock him down. No regrets, no tears goodbye. Whooo oooh! Lots bought it.

Iraq had no real WMD, was no threat to us in real time terms, and was an easy target.

So, in official hindsight - bumbling, "see the ace, where's the ace" slight of hand and outright lies are of no consequence because that didn't matter. It was a doable enterprise, in Bush's terms. And they say that ought to be enough.

For a foreign policy? I think not.

I'm glad the Senate statements on the Rice nomination have been televised, for what they are worth. Failure deserves some review.
