1. Maybe cause they have questions about her that still aren't resolved.
Maybe that's it.

2. I think it's fairly obvious---Obama is one sharp guy and he
would be crazy to identify with her----she's has a good message but she is a loose cannon.

37. I don't think she's a loose cannon.
She is taking A LOT of abuse for taking a stand and is handling it quite well from what I've seen.

20. John Kerry played it safe in 2004
Kerry played it safe after our convention and look where it got him. He was pummeled by the swift boat whores for a month and never recovered. Daschle played it safe and now he is a lobbyist. It is time for our elected leaders to show some courage. The leaders of our party should travel to Crawford and embrace Cindy. Show the citizens of this country that we support Cindy's cause and oppose AWOL.

25. CityDem is absolutely wrong, for the very good reasons
set forth by other posters on this thread.

The minute ANY prominent Democrat shows up in Crawford the story becomes about him or her, and the issue becomes as partisan as the Republicans have claimed it was all along.

Kerry, Kennedy, Clark, Dean, Boxer, Conyers and other leading Democrats have all made statements of support for Cindy, and that's all they should do.

resonate with any of the nationally prominent politicians.
You will NEVER see Hillary, Kerry, Obama, Lieberman, that senator
from Indiana (whose name escapes me at the moment), or any one else
who has future presidential ambitions, in Crawford, TX.

3. Obama is overseas on official business
the Sheehan protest is important, but there are other important things to, like for example loose nukes.

http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/nationworld/chi-0508270049aug27,1,1261234.story?coll=chi-newsnationworld-hed

MOSCOW -- The chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Richard Lugar of Indiana, and its newest member, Barack Obama of Illinois, began a weeklong tour of former Cold War weapons sites Friday to inspect the progress of dismantlement and highlight what they fear is a growing global threat from stolen nuclear material.

Poor security at aging nuclear, chemical and biological weapons facilities across the former Soviet Union has been a longstanding worry. But Lugar said he was encouraged that Russia recently agreed to open warhead sites to three U.S. inspections, which would allow for specialized training, stronger oversight and a better idea of what risks lie inside.

"It has broken a logjam of misunderstanding," said Lugar, who for more than a decade has been traveling here at least once a year to measure the advances that countries have made in eliminating their nuclear, chemical and biological weapons. "This was an important breakthrough."

Sen. Obama's first foreign trip

Obama, making his first foreign trip as a senator, said until the weapons were destroyed or properly safeguarded, the U.S and other nations were vulnerable to a nuclear attack. Neither the government nor the public, he said, views the threat with sufficient urgency.

"People can sort of put it off, and it's not confronting you day-to-day in an immediate sort of way," Obama said. "The consequence of inaction can be enormous, but I think it's one of those issues where until it's too late, you don't see a problem."

Obama, a Democrat, and Lugar, a Republican, also will travel to Ukraine and Azerbaijan. And they will meet with British Prime Minister Tony Blair next week in London.

14. Imagevision, how is he ducking?
He is in the former USSR. Should every Dem Senator be in Crawford? Should every DEM senator make a statement of support daily? I don't get it, he is obviously not discouraging her. Are you in Crawford?

17. Obama ducking? In USSR? when he returns he should rethink priorities
where was Obama before USSR trip? where was he when Ohio election fraud was going on and Blackwell was calling the shots on the recount?

Sure he's sharp, that's why I would expect my top guns up front where they count and are needed!

7. its best to not overly politicize this
right now its an angered mom against the POTUS. if notable democratic politicians get involved it will give it a partisan vibe to the american people and undermine the fact that its simply about a mother in need of answers.

11. Actually, very good move on their part
It is better to let this movement stay a grassroot movement and that the focus be on this mother and not on a series of politicians trying to get the light on them.

We need this movement to stay the movement of the people. Pols can act on other platforms like TV, Congress, ...

2006 will have more election problems because of the possibilities of Repugs losing seats..that's why election reform is needed now but the Hillary's and Obama's have busy agenda's while serious issues go unchecked in their own backyard!

33. For the reason the MSM, especially Faux, is trying to tie her to liberal
media groups. The idea of an individual mother, joined by other parents of dead and wounded soldiers, gains popular support from the average person. If they can link this homegrown protest to a concerted anti-Bush publicity machine they can chip away at her public appeal. Why do you think you're hearing Moore, Soros and Code Pink thrown into every discussion of her and her motives?

You have a clue? Sorry, dumb question. I am sure if Obama were asked about her, he would support her. Has he been asked to make a statement or take a stand? If so I am unaware of it.

Sorry, I call BS. And I am sorry i kicked this sorry thread.

27. one question,
Edited on Sat Aug-27-05 07:31 PM by Senator Lamb
why all the Obama hate? he is charismatic, charming, great personal story not to mention a great convention speech. he also opposed the iraq war and insisted his name be taken of the DLC list.

i also suggest you read his commencement speech that was posted on daily kos. if i knew how to link things i would do it. it stood for everything the majority of DU members post everyday filled with clarity on the responsibility of the government towards its people. very populist.

34. Because people cant be bothered to listen to what somebody says
A lot of people assumed that Obama was somebody he was not, not because he had misrepresented himself, but because they did not listen to him.

So, when he turned out not to be the ultra-liberal, attack dog heroe they were waiting for, but a good, solid senator who thought before he did things, they were not surprisingly disappointed, but from their own making.

I am waiting the same thing concerning Feingold because people did not bother listening to what he was proposing. I am just wondering when it will come.

He's a polished politician, and doesn't want to rock anyone's boat, so he plays to both sides. I think it's called, taking the high road. :dilemma:
