Over 100,000 Left To Die....

....That should be the headline tomorrow.By the grace of a benevolent universe it looks like the death toll on the Gulf Coast will be "merely" catastrophic. But 100,000 COULD have died in the United States that has a well advanced weather service, a multi trillion dollar budget, and an advanced infrastructure. This is not Sri Lanka with primitive fishing villages and a flawed warning system facing a crisis that strikes within hours. A modern American city watched a developing storm line up a head shot for several days and then left the underclass to take the bullet.
.....Those left behind were NOT "refuseniks" belittling the fears and vowing to fight the removal. Watch the pictures and see the 35,000 gathered in the best protection offered them, an untested, un-stocked, "refuge of last resort". There to be held in line for hours as the storm built in intensity, to avoid the dangers of both "the demon rum" and "the evils of second hand smoke". How well would you behave if your family was held outside in an approaching Category 5 storm for 4 hours over this?
....Could they have been evacuated? Hell YES!The trains and busses were shut down early.How many school busses were within the 250 mile radius of New Orleans? An order at 10am should have had them leaving by 2 or three pm....
...In short they were LEFT TO DIE in what this country has become.I am disgusted and you should be also....just my rant...

I remember the Berlin air lift that dropped food to the starving, what
is so compassionate about this Christianity, if you looked at the video
you would see mostly very young children and the elderly. What society are we in that we can't provide for our defenseless members.

The levies could have been improved and shelters could have been made ready years in advance. But NOOOOO! Protecting Halliburton's oil interests in some third world country is more important.

Sen. Landrieu was on CNN this morning acting pissed that some people had not evacuated. Didn't mention they had no way out and no means to get out. Isn't it the job of our elected officials to put plans in place to deal with such a situation, particularly in a coastal city that lies below sea level? The mayor wasn't particularly concerned about the plight of the city's poor when I saw him interviewed yesterday afternoon,either. Sort of casually smiling about the whole thing.

I guess it's hard to be elected to public office if you actually give a damn about the public.

nearly anyone else but this right wing administration - on the basis that the people behind this regime have made it clear that they are not against population reduction in their think tank 'thinkings' and dating back to the early mogul thinkers of the 20th Century. The concept probablly started with the Emancipation. This is a cruel country. Wealthy people with little people roots are excluded of course, whether or not they have figured out how to avoid paying taxes like the corporations and foundations.

Haley Barbour was yakking it up on CNN today about the many people he expects may have died, but he implied it was their "choice" to not leave. Cold-blooded devils, Repubs are.

said that Nagin and the other councilmembers had delayed declaring a mandatory evacuation because the laws of N'awlins state that the city then becomes liable for any damage while the owners are away. (Not hurricane damage, looting damage.)
