Right-Wing Rock - Coming soon to a school near you at taxpayer expense
First there was Ted Nugent. Then Foghat. (Okay, that was just an ugly rumor.) Now there’s a new right-wing band to vying for the hearts and minds of America ’s youth: Junkyard Prophet.

But, instead of trying to beg its way onto MTV to build its audience, this band is performing directly inside of America’s high schools.

Oh, and the federal government is footing the bill.

That’s right. Over the last few years, a band called Junkyard Prophet (through its youth outreach organization, You Can Run But You Cannot Hide) has been touring across Middle America, spewing its ultra-conservative message at hundreds of school assemblies along the way. And it’s received hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars for its efforts. Armstrong Williams, eat your heart out.

1. Right Wing and Rock & Roll - Isn't that actually an oxymoron?
IMO: real Rock and Roll would not fit into the idiosyncrasies of the right wing nut jobs.

4. I read the article
The one thing I agree with that the band says is that alcoholism is not a disease. If you told that to some of my relatives and friends who have cancer, they would beat you with their quad-cane. I'm surprised that they don't support AA since you essentially have to believe in a higher power as one of the steps.

7. You've obviously never seen someone go through detox
If you've ever seen someone who's physically addicted to alcohol or anything else then you'll know why it's a disease. It's a disease because depriving an alcoholic of booze will make him/her physically ill, literally physically ill.

Detoxing someone who's physically addicted to alcohol always follows a predictable set of symptoms. Within a day's time of being deprived of booze they will start to have tremors they cannot control. Their skin will take on the appearance of having been sunburned and they will likely sweat uncontrollably. This will last for about three days. They will also be completely incapable of holding down food for the same three days and will probably get little or no sleep during that time.

In short, depriving them of their chemical of choice should make them better but instead it physically incapacitates them for a number of days. That's a disease. We would all expect someone who quits to get better. If they stick to it they eventually will. However, when the HEALTHY move to quit leads directly to disease symptoms which last for days, that shows just how sick an alcohol has made his or her own body. THE WHOLE REASON TO QUIT IS BECAUSE YOU'VE MADE YOURSELF ILL.

The disease is certainly THEIR FAULT brought on by THEIR OWN CHOICE. The fact that it is their own fault does not change the medically provable fact that the body of a long-term alcoholic or addict has been made INCREDIBLY sick by the addiction.

8. I'll Keep This Band And Its Sickening Viewpoints In Mind.......
....the next time some gun activist "Democrat" down in DU's Gun Dungeon forum tries to argue that a 100% Republican, NRA-friendly, guns-for-everybody position is somehow a "liberal" stance that the Democratic Party should embrace. Yeah, sure......
