If Repubs make next election about their "conservative" vs our "liberal"
Edited on Sun Dec-04-05 11:08 PM by kentuck
then, as usual, they stand a very good chance at winning in 2008...

However, if we make the election about their Republicans running for Congress against our Democrats running for Congress, then we have a better chance at winning the Presidency. Because, a few thousand extra votes in some hot Congressional races can make a difference in who might win the state in popular vote for the Presidency also. With the scandals and the corruption in the Republican Congress, it would be foolish to let the Repubs make it a race between their "conservative" and our "liberal". That's what they would like. Because they know they are better than the Democrats when it comes to character assassination and personal attacks. But, if Democrats are smart, they will run to win the Congress. By doing that, they stand a better chance at winning the White House.

2. Strongly disagree ...
... with the Conservative versus Liberal idea. Why let THEM set the vocabulary, and thus the agenda?

It's time for Liberals to embrace the concept of being so -- and explain to the sheeple that 'Liberal' means the government stays out of your bedroom and your library records, 'Liberal' means health care for everyone, not for the privileged few, 'Liberal' means supporting the American ideals of Freedom of Speech and Religion, and not curtailing these freedoms -- you get the idea.

It's time to point out what the 'Conservative' agenda has done to the country in the last five-plus years, and then ask the voters if they've HAD ENOUGH!

3. You need to call Nancy Pelosi
:toast:

The Dem party needs to stop trying to avoid the "liberal" label. So long as there is one Republican strategist left on the planet, Dems are stuck with being "liberals." They need to grab hold of it, and redefine it!

5. I'd call her in a NY minute ...
... if I thought she'd listen (you know, a little Nance-on-Nance
tet-a-tet)!

I just get SO frustrated (as you probably do, too) with Dems who keep going on the defensive about who they are, and what they stand for. How do they expect voters to cast their ballots for people who don't even believe in their own ideals?

"Say it loud - I'm a Liberal and I'm PROUD!"

4. I think we would have learned by now....
that no matter who our presidential candidate is, the Repubs will do their best to emasculate him. And when it comes down to one on one, they usually win with their personal attacks vs the Democratic attacks on his opponents ideas or policies. Personal attacks win every time.

But by taking your very talking points and extending those to Congressional races, it could help us pick up several seats. And for every seat we gained, that would be added to the totals of the Democratic presidential candidate, because most people that vote for Congressional candidates vote for the top of the ticket also. The Democrat must ride the coattails of Congress much as the Republican Congress must ride the coattails of their presidential candidate...

7. Why not just use the question to define certain values.
Kerry flubbed the "labels mean nothing" approach; he seemed to be hiding. The 'Pukes and TV Wingnuts throw themselves in to their scripts without addressing the question and laying out the logic (there is none) of their argument. Americans respond because there's a sense of command and certainty. Liberal Arts types like me are skeptical of anyone who's that sure of their position, but a politicial would do well to ignore my desire to watch the full intellectual process unfold, fully footnoted.

I'd propose an approach a lot like the GOP's, but without the hate and lies.

Them: The Fuckhead Thinktank says their scientific study proves you're one of the 4 most liberal women in history.

Our Candidate: I believe in freedom. Our society can serve to help everyone fulfull their own human potential; it shouldn't tell people how to live. I believe in respect for others; in privacy; that the Government should stay out of the bedroom. Communities should be able to choose their own direction; people choose their own ways to grow and become the best they can. We cannot know the consequences of every decision, so I take my guidance from the Constitution, Mill's On LIberty (?), and the Sermon on the Mount...

something like that, prob. with more allusions to work opportunities and fair labor practices. Hmm. 4:46. Time to go to bed.

6. When in the hell
are Democrats going to embrace the word liberal and apply as Bill Clinton said in 1992, " putting people first....no one left out...no one left behind." Embrace the term liberal and turn it around on the repukes.
Goodness, if DemocratS will stand up and embrace the term liberal and what it means to them and in all reality what it means to be a democrat there will be no confusion as to whom the voters will vote for....
In the 06 election the dems cannot be the lil cuddley bear and come across as repuke lite.....THEY GOT TO BE A DAMN GRIZZLEY.....

8. The republican party running the country is not "conservative".
Just look at the paleo-conservative blogs. They are well aware of this.
