Statistic query re: bush supporters
I would like to know what percentage of the 36%ers have;

-ever been on an airplane
-ever been to amajor city (other than orlando or branson)
-when was the last time for both of the above
-approximately how often do you travel by air each year

-what type of "ethnic" food can be had in your town/city (not counting chinese or pizza)
-what kinds of ethnic food do you enjoy?

??just wondering

1. y'know -- that IS kind of elitist.
Several of your points are related to lack of opportunity. And as for ethnic food, is there something noble about my preference for gnocchi con gorgonzola over meatloaf? Actually, I like meatloaf too.

6. Extremely elitist, especially when our party champions the poor

8. And of course, some people are afraid to fly
Not me, mind you, though I do prefer the train except for long hauls.

As to the food points, I think the OP was not trying to be elitist, but speaking to the idea of intellectual curiosity about unfamiliar things in general. I love meatloaf, too, but I enjoy the foods of the rest of the world just as much, to the extent that I even like to prepare them myself.

I suspect that the problem with most BushBots, as with most kinds of Bot, is that they hate to budge from their comfort zones and experience the beauty and variety of world, even if it's just through books, films, TV other than the 700 Club, and foreign cuisines.

5. Why would any of this matter?
Other than to somehow give "intellectual" cover to someone who wanted to call them hicks?

7. yikes! didn't mean to be elitist
I was just thinking about this stuff because of the damning and scary 9/11 Comission's report to-day.

It made me really curious whether the 36% people ever travelled much thus weren't worried about airplane safety and attack fears in big cities.

The ethnic food thing was related to that who cares about NY and LA because of all the foreigners in such places, mistrust of such places and indicative of a lack of diversity in their own area.

Pizza and Chinese excluded because EVERY place has those so I didn't count them.

Yeah, Branson. major creepy but not major.

I do apologize for ruffling feathers! I meant no harm but I was not clear.
Sorry, gang.

10. Feathers not ruffled and
I take your points. (My sister lives a couple of counties over from Branson and her comment after 9-11 was "at least I don't think we're in the crosshairs in Northern Arkansas." She likes pretty nearly anything Irish, by the way, and has been there by air a couple times).

But I was a little worried about reinforcing the stereotype of Merlot liberals. Damn it! I like Merlot! But Pinot Gris goes better with the Gnocchi con Gorgonzola.
