NYT: Weicker may run against Lieberman
http://www.nytimes.com/2005/12/06/nyregion/metrocampaigns/06weicker.html?adxnnl=1&oref=login&adxnnlx=1133848689-OOc2F+OZ1cm8cqIGHe3Lgg

HARTFORD, Dec. 5 - Former Gov. Lowell P. Weicker Jr. on Monday criticized Senator Joseph I. Lieberman's continued support of the war in Iraq and said that if no candidate challenged the senator on the issue in the 2006 election, he would consider running.

Updating earlier story that said he wouldn't run

Beating Lieberman would be an uphill battle, but Lowell Weicker would be a serious challenge for Joe. Lieberman defeated Weicker by about 10,000 votes in 1988. Since then Weicker has left the Republican party and was elected governor as an independent in 1990. He endorsed Bill Bradley in 2000 and Howard Dean in 2004.

4. I thought I just read another article where he basically said
someone should run against him but that person would not be him.

But in all seriousness would he be a strong challenger? I just don't see anyone beating him considering he has such high approval ratings among Dems and pukes.

6. It would be tough to beat Lieberman
Edited on Tue Dec-06-05 01:40 AM by J-Hen
But Weicker probably has the best shot out of anyone.

"I'm not somebody who wants to put his track record on the line for some quixotic pursuit," he said, "but how do you bring the issue of the war to the country otherwise?"

7. I'd like to see Weicker...
... back in the Senate. Reasonably straight shooter. The most obvious problem is that Weicker will be 75 in May, and a campaign against an incumbent will be physically wearing, I'm sure.

Of course, if Lieberman becomes a Bushie in fact as well as spirit, Weicker could win more easily, but, then, his impetus to run would be gone.

But, it would be fun to see--I'll bet he and Bernie Sanders could work out some interesting tag-team routines against the far right. :)

8. I loathe Lieberman so much I might come over from Iowa
to help his opponent. I am sure I am not alone in thinking him a Quisling in the Dem. ranks.

9. Joe Must Go...
Yep..you're right. I've got to say I'm a bit disgusted with Senator Lieberman as well. Still not quite sure why Al chose him as a running mate. Wieker will have my unconditional support to knock off Lieberman.

The Senator

10. Gore chose him
to balance the ticket. Many in CT are still pissed at Weiker for introducing a state income tax. I wonder how many could get past that to vote JoeAsshole out of office? I know I would but...

14. VOTE TO DUMP JOE: Hartford Courant Online Poll
Both the NH Register and Hartford Courant now have stories from last nights Rotary club meeting in which Weicker said he would run if no other Democrat stepped up against Lieberman.

The Hartford Courant online is running one of those side bar polls. Vote for Weicker or other. (Or lieberman if you think this is all hooey)

At the moment Lieberman is winning 53.2% <306 votes> to Weicker's 38.6% <222 votes>. Other: 8.2% <47 votes>
