1. wait a minute. why should I care?
cuz I don't. there are really truly big issues going on in the world. IMO this is a distraction ploy and it's working. no offense meant to you or others who really might care.

12. In this case, "yes" implies that this issue is valid.
Yes, the "War on Christmas" is a distraction,
but we can't let the theocrats set the agenda
by default.

14. they already have...they've made a non-issue into a freakin' BIG issue
that smart people at DU and all over America are now buying into. If we wouldn't bite, people would see pretty damn quickly that this is a smokescreen.

you think they aren't literally eating their own over this? they can't keep that up for long. and honest to god this is small small potatoes! I don't buy any slippery slope crappola either - not on this issue. they are going for big stuff while folks get in an uproar over this.

why else do you think O'Reilly invented it?

3. I just heard from a friend that liberals are at war with Christmas?
News to me, but then again I never watch Fox News.
But they have books to sell.

Of COURSE it's a huge distraction.
Like Gay marriage.

5. Liberals are at war against the people that are trying to
turn this into a Christian theocracy. Democrats are for inclusion, republicans are for exclusion - to the point of ratifying discrimination into state constitutions and the US constitution if they could.

Happy Winter Shopping Season!

9. point taken,
but i still don't care what ANYONE's greeting card says... I think we'd do better to "wage war" on the Republican and religious right's war on gays and dissenters and scientists. If we'd amp up the volume on what they are doing in those arenas (also part of their attempt to impose theocracy) we might have a real effect on real people.

Republican tactics are barbaric - and need to be revealed as such. They are hypocritical and need to be revealed as such. These people must be shown for what they really are. We should keep amplifying their actions (real ones, like the corruption being uncovered in every nook and cranny of the GOP, and the violence against Profs who criticize "intelligent creation", and against gay teens and the bullying of corporations into discriminating against whomever these thugs identify as objects of hatred).

This is why I believe we should not get sidetracked onto false wars declared by idiots like O'Lielly. Cuz if we succeed in changing the Holiday Card into the Xmas Card (or whatever our objective is supposed to be), how exactly are we "winning"?

17. Point taken
But I find I have time to fight for many things all at once. And, no, I'm not sidetracked. I think inclusion should be championed and discrimination should be criticized.

But I see your point and I know you mean well.

11. "Happy Winter Shopping Season!" - That's perfect.
I suppose next month we can go around wishing everyone "Many Happy Returns!"

Myself, I'm a Christian who celebrates Christmas, but I am sick of those who scream "Jesus is the Reason for the Season" and "Don't take Christ out of Christmas." I don't need a "season" to practice my faith; the coming of Emmanuel is an ongoing cause for celebration. And IMO, Christ has already been taken out of Christmas--and replaced by commercialism.

Happy Winter Shopping Season, indeed!

religious affiliation myself, I must say I was a bit curiou as to why TWO of the THREE major shopping malls in our area (which for the last 30 years I've lived here) have ALWAYS decorated traditional red/green Christmas decorations, with WHITE and/or ALL COLORED lights...this year decorated BOTH MALLS with BLUE lights ONLY. And blue and silver color scheme ornaments. The one mall even had their HUGE central Christmas tree decorated ALL IN BLUE, with BLUE lights. There were a FEW poinsetta plants near the base of the tree (which appeared to be put there to appease, perhaps any Christians.) Again, even though I'm of no particular religious denomination, I found this so odd in it's "timing"...as neither of these malls (owned by Australian corp., by the way) had UNCHARACTERISTICALLY broken with "tradition" THIS YEAR, and decorated in BLUE for the first time in 30+ years here.

Again, I wish to offend no one...but Christmas IS also part of the holiday season, last time I checked. And accounts for approx. 80% of the sales these malls are benefitting from. So I remain perplexed.
