Several groups oppose Cross-Border Trade in Services under CAFTA asserting
it allows people in Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua a de facto right to work in the United States, e.g. CAFTA undermines immigration laws

CAFTA, “Chapter Eleven Cross-Border Trade in Services” says “Article 11.2: National Treatment 1. Each Party shall accord to service suppliers of another Party treatment no less favorable than that it accords, in like circumstances, to its own service suppliers.”

NAFTA “Chapter Twelve: Cross-Border Trade in Services” has a similar section that says, “Article 1202: National Treatment 1. Each Party shall accord to service providers of another Party treatment no less favorable than that it accords, in like circumstances, to its own service providers.”

The NAFTA statement on Cross-Border Trade in Services is essentially the same as in CAFTA and covers Mexico and Canada.

If the CAFTA Cross-Border Trade in Services statement is a threat, then surely we must have experienced considerable economic activity with Mexico since NAFTA was implemented on 1 Jan 1994.

Does anyone know how much Cross-Border Trade in Services from Mexico into the U.S. has been experienced ?
