I am sure you all remember when Cheney told us Iraq had nukes ("has, in fact, reconstituted nuclear weapons") several days before the invasion of Iraq. I wrote an oped recently to the Joplin Globe (SW MO) and local Bush enablers have tried to tell people that Cheney simply misspoke. Here is what I sent them back:
Hypothetical #1: My brother said the following to me the other day:
"Father has had years to get good at it and we know that he has been absolutely devoted to trying to acquire a Ford Mustang. And we believe is trying to obtain a Ford Mustang." Now, what was the purpose of that last sentence? Can you tell me what new information the last sentence gave you? Could my brother have saved himself time and just not said it at all since everything and more was already stated? Hypothetical #2: My brother said the following to me the other day:
"Father has had years to get good at it and we know that he has been absolutely devoted to trying to acquire a Ford Mustang. And we believe he has obtained a Ford Mustang."
The last sentence has a purpose in this hypothetical! It imparts new information to the listener. That, not only has my dad attempted to obtain a Ford Mustang, he has finally got one. Good for him, he has a Mustang and my brother needn't waste his time with unnecessary redundancy.
