Rummy exit rumored; Lieberman eyed for job

BY THOMAS M. DEFRANK and KENNETH R. BAZINET
DAILY NEWS WASHINGTON BUREAU

WASHINGTON - White House officials are telling associates they expect Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld to quit early next year, once a new government is formed in Iraq, sources said yesterday.
Rumsfeld's deputy, Gordon England, is the inside contender to replace him, but there's also speculation that Sen. Joe Lieberman - a Democrat who ran against Bush-Cheney in the 2000 election - might become top guy at the Pentagon.

That's not as farfetched as it might first appear.

The Daily News has learned that the White House considered Lieberman for the UN ambassador's job last year before giving the post to John Bolton, a Bush adviser said........

1. So they'll be able to claim that they have "bipartisan" support
and they'll have a scapegoat to pin everything on. Lieberman's a bigger fool than I thought if he takes the job.

2. Well, that's gets him out of the Senate and a real Democrat can run.
Also, if we have a choice between Rumsfeld and Lieberman, then Lieberman's my choice.

3. If Lieberman does that and gives up that Senate seat, he is a traitor.
At that point, he should be formally expelled from the party.

6. They didn't formally expell Zell Miller
and that was far worse IMO. I think we need to start getting rid of real DiNOs by asking them out of the party when they do things like this... specifically what Miller did. He is not a Democrat and certainly in my opinion there is no room for dixiecrats in the Democratic Party. We don't need bigots here.

4. What?
The Daily News has learned that the White House considered Lieberman for the UN ambassador's job last year before giving the post to John Bolton, a Bush adviser said.....

Isn't it a step down to be an ambassador from being a Senator? I would rather be a Senator than an ambassador or secretary of defense any day of the week.

I guess the good thing here is that with Holy Joe gone a real Democrat can go after his seat. Joe's such a brown-noser.

One less vote in the D tally. If he does this, he's through in this Party.

He may have left in spirit a while ago.

7. The March of the chickenhawks continues.
Another SOD with no clue whatsoever about the military. It might be worth it to get that blowhard out of the Senate.

11. I was kind of wondering what Lieberman's qualifications are, myself...
...you know, apart from "servility" and "Republican appointed successor in the Senate."

14. Here is Steve Gilliard on the subject:
"Lieberman is either being played or will be the fall guy for Chosin II, Retreat Hell in the Desert. Either way, he's committing political suicide. Of course, when he does this, he'll be remembered as the biggest mark in American politics, scorned by Dems, laughed at by the GOP.

What no one seems to understand is that even if our new Shia overlords don't boot us out, and I expect the Sadrists and their Sunni allies to sing that song daily, once there are elections, US opinion will demand, not more support for Iraq, but that the US finally get out. They have a government, let them defend it, will be the theme."

13. Republican Governor
Jodi Rell would appoint a GOP to replace Lieberdouche - giving that person the incumbency. Perhaps this would benefit a real democrat, or maybe even Weicker and his independent bid for the Senate seat

12. He's much more of a neo-con than Rumsfeld
That will just insure their position in going after Iran... He and Netanyahu are in cahoots... They are the radical jewish fundamentalists! So we would have radical christian AND radical jewish ideologies in the administration... Joy

16. MAybe there's more to it......
...than meets the eye. Rumsfeld has tendered his resignation twice, and Bush has refused it twice. Maybe there's something new going on here.....like...Fitzgerald's investigation! Why would they suddenly want the Rummy Dummy out? Secret Prisons? There's something here, I just haven't quite figured it out yet.

20. Now that things are a mess, put a Dem in while it goes into
even further chaos and blame him for it when we pull out.

Perfect RW cover for their massive screw up and HOly Joe is willing to give the neo-cons cover....he'll take a bullet for them.

What a useless carbon based life form.
