Blow to Defense: DeLay Hearings Put Off Until After Holiday
AUSTIN, Texas Dec 8, 2005 — A state district judge told Rep. Tom DeLay's lawyers that he won't schedule hearings in DeLay's money laundering and conspiracy case until after Christmas, a blow to the lawmaker's hopes to speedily clear his name and reclaim his position as House majority leader.

In a letter to DeLay's attorneys Wednesday, Senior Judge Pat Priest said he'll be working on other cases and won't be available until Dec. 27 to take up pending motions in DeLay's case stemming from a 2002 campaign finance scheme.

DeLay attorney Dick DeGuerin had also asked Priest to tentatively schedule a trial for the first or second week of January. Priest wrote that a trial date depends on whether the state appeals his decision earlier this week to dismiss another conspiracy charge and would not commit to a January trial. An appeal would delay the case.
.....
Priest also indicated DeLay will have to share a trial with Ellis and Colyandro. Defense attorneys wanted the cases separated, and Ellis and Colyandro wanted later trials so their attorneys would have more time to try to persuade an appeals courts to dismiss the charges.

A hopeful Hastert had delayed the House session until the end of January. Oh, well...

3. appeal! appeal!
If Ronnie Earl appeals, then there's a chance the trial won't begin until late January or even February. If DeLay's co-defendants try to break away, that will mean more delays.

4. Get ready for the next stop on the Delay
desperation tour. I can hear it now - its all political, that "Democrat judge" is in cahoots with the "Democrat prosecutor" to stick it to a fine christian man like Delay. This is good in several respects - not only does it decrease the little POS's chances of regaining his majority leader jobs but it gives the Abram Jackoff investigation in DC more time to get headlines and get closer to Delay.

6. Poor Denny - if he reverses his late January dictum, it will be obvious
Edited on Fri Dec-09-05 10:33 AM by higher class
why he did it. Wanna bet that he will concoct a lie or will he just go with the late Jan date. In the meantime, we are homeless, hungry, uninsured, having our benefits cut (for military and regular folks), and we are killing and maiming people on a daily basis while our debt to China and the world mounts and U.S. citizens who are rich, get richer.

You may ask why I said WE are homeless, hungry - etc. Didn't Christ say something like What you do to the them, you do to me? We are we, folks. This is a sad country. And DeLay wants the world, as always and co-criminals like Hastert do all they can to facilitate it.
