As a democrat and a Jew, to me this Lieberman is nothing but a traitor. He's a traitor to the party and a traitor to the country. He does not stand for truth or peace. Why doesn't he just switch parties, and join all the freaking liars. He's the next Zell Miller. What a worthless scum.

12. Here is an interesting part of an article linked to on the Gore
thread on the Greatest Page.

An Al Gore-type is more like it

-snip-
It is paradoxical that the Democratic Party, which is so beholden to Jews for energy, funds and ideas, has not looked into a mirror and noticed something odd. No matter how rich the Jewish community got, no matter how powerful, it continued to vote overwhelmingly Democratic. In other words, it voted against its economic self-interest, which would be lower taxes or, in the fantasies of Republicans, almost no taxes at all.

This is the power of culture. Two, three generations out of the impoverished Eastern European ghetto, powerful and privileged beyond compare, most Jews still vote as if the Cossacks might come at any moment and the sweatshop boss might throw them out into the streets.

So it should come as no surprise that the power of culture - the power of it to override or cancel out economic self-interest - has become so prominent in American political life.

The very fact that Ohio remained a battleground state to the end is a case in point. It had - and has - a weak economy. It has lost hundreds of thousands of jobs. Yet it seems that countless Ohioans did not vote their wallets but their cultural values - 62% in support of an amendment banning same-sex marriage, for instance. The economy might be bad, but it was not so bad as the prospect of gay marriages.

26. A lot of what annoys us about Joe has happened in the last 5 years.
Edited on Fri Dec-09-05 02:13 PM by Pirate Smile
Gore could have endorsed him in 2004. He didn't. He endorsed Dean and campaigned for Kerry.

You're going to have to just let the Gore/Lieberman 2000 go - it isn't 2000 anymore.

edit to add - Of course, you don't have to let it go. You can continue to let it drive you crazy if you like :) .

Oh, well. At least I wasn't born here. I am a native of New York, thank God! I remind myself of that when I get bummed out over this.

When he ran for the 2004 nomination he showed his true colors. I am convinced that he is actually a repub, knowing he couldn't get elected as one he ran as a Dem.

gave him 100% ratings from NARAL, and made him one of the top 10 liberal senators in areas such as gay rights, budget, civil rights, education, labor, etc? I doubt it. With a record like that, why would he switch parties?

22. point well taken, however
supporting a killing spree in which hundreds of thousands of innocent people have been killed, and which puts our country in greater danger, all for the sake of oil profits... that sort of trumps the civil rights support he's had over the years. just my opinion. anyone who can support this administration and this war is either insane, an idiot, or a greedy liar.

34. Baby and the Bathwater
I absolutely do not support his position on Iraq. However, all of these tedious, bullshit posts about his being like Zell Miller or he should just switch parties is beyond tiresome. I swear DU opinions on politicians (our own) is like the Oklahoma weather, wait five minutes, it is bound to change! The other thing I am sick of his the bullshit about his religion. He is not a dual citizen of Israel, but because he is a Jew, it is accepted as truth. I have looked it up and he doesn't have a dual citizenship, but does have an Israeli mother. Anytime a Jew pisses off the democrats, they must be working for the Israeli government or place Israeli interests above those of the US. :eyes:

While I support action against Lieberman's Iraq stance, the bullshit about his loyalties (to the US and the Democratic party) need to stop!

11. Lieby
Some commentator said he's getting old and hasn't much future in the Dem Party. Seems he spoke out loud and nastily about Bill Clinton during the Monica debacle so Hillary wouldn't give him any position should she get elected. He's got Zell's problem--his own party doesn't recognize his superiority anymore. Also, he'd been trying to get the US to invade Iraq for years on Israel's behalf, having dual citizenship himself.

13. Joe is to be saluted for his love for Israel and his jewish faith...
By removing Saddam, Joe has helped Israel. And Israel is our ally
so it helps us too. I may not agree with his position on Iraq war,
but I can uderstand why he did it. And so did Kerry, Edwards, Hillary
and other dems who voted for the IWR. Just that they have flip-flopped
based on polls and joe is sticking to his beliefs.

BUT THE MAIN REASON I DO NOT HATE JOE IS HE VOTES ON PRO-DEM POSITIONS
ON ALL OTHER ISSUES.

14. I'm sick of religious politicians like Lieberman
I don't care if he's Jewish, Christian, Moslem, Confucian, or purple-polka-dotted giraffe. When politicians wear their faith and religion on their sleeves, as Lieberman frequently does, it makes me jumpy. Be as religious as you want in Temple, Church, Mosque or in the privacy of your own home --- that's where it belongs. Keep it out of politics. Its bad enough we have to put up with the unelected Falwells, Robertsons, etal. I don't want to have to hear about religion & faith from elected public officials, who get paid by ALL of us, regardless of our religion. I particularly don't want to hear about it from the politicians who want to continue this war.

Pomeroy to Howard Dean:Shut up
http://www.bismarcktribune.com/articles/2005/12/09/news/state/106702.prt

WASHINGTON - North Dakota Rep. Earl Pomeroy is accusing Democratic Party Chairman Howard Dean of overstepping his bounds, saying the former presidential candidate should not give up on the war in Iraq.

On Monday, Dean likened the war in Iraq to Vietnam and said, "The idea that the United States is going to win the war in Iraq is just plain wrong."

"My words to Howard Dean are simple - shut up," Pomeroy told WDAY Radio in North Dakota on Thursday.

This war is lost. The only thing to do now is to return to the UN and beg them to help us establish an Iraqi army and police force. If the UN agrees, then we need to scale back and let the UN take the lead. The war, illegal to begin with, cannot be won at this juncture.
