Okay it's 2006 and them the Democratic party regains control of the house and senate my question is will the leadership change?

I'm talking more about the hous than the Senate cause i think the leadership will stay the same, reid as majority leader, durbin as majority and since Robert Byrd is the oldest member of the democratic party in the Senate he'll be president pro tem.

My question is what will the leadership be in the house you think nancy pelosi will be speaker and steny hoyer be the majority leader?

Now i know i must be an idiot for asking this what will all the heated converstaions on this forum regarding dean, the war, the DLC and diebold.

1. I'm positive the House leadership will be Speaker Pelosi
And Majority Ldr. Hoyer with Emanuel, Clyburn or Schakowsky moving up as majority whip.

At the same time, I don't think Hoyer will be Majority Leader. He comes form the centrist wing of the party and while there are quite a few centrists in the caucus, I'd think more than half of the caucus would rather go for somebody more liberal than Hoyer.

Plus, I think a pick of Hoyer would really really piss off the base. Instead of whipping the vote on the bankruptcy bill, he voted for it himself. He doesn't have what it takes to unify the Democratic caucus on important votes.

5. Hoyer is not a centrist
his comments on Iraq notwithstanding. I think he would make a great leader.

3. I know its a little premature, but Id eventually like to see Tim Ryan (OH)
rise to speaker. As far as leadership in the senate, Harry Reid is doing a fine job.

4. Tim Ryan- sooner rather than later
Young, charsimatic, and a good progressive. He'd make a great leader.

7. I really don't see
The Democrats passing on the opportunity to produce the 1st female speaker of the house. Tim Ryan should be majority leader though, not hoyer.

8. Not in any significant way.
Neither the leadership nor the direction of the nation would change: it'd be Bush-lite politics as usual, with marginal shifts in style and emphasis.

The only real change will come from first reforming the Democratic Party along progressive lines. But you already knew that. ;-)
