i had surgery on friday so i've been away from the discussion
boards. i caught the chris matthews show last night and they were talking about the repubs running guilliani or mcCain in 08. anyone catch this or post it? i think guilliani could be trouble for dems because he's a moderate. i would hope that people would realize that McCain is nuts.

9. Well, on social issues he's pretty liberal.
Pro-gay rights, pro-choice (no problems with late term), anti-gun.

Why? ...you don't think so?

Look at his past. OHhh geez, come to think of it... maybe you'd better not look back at it!

2. Hope you are feeling well
Would the right wing ever consider voting for Ghouliani? McCain might try a run but somehow I don't think the repuke base would nominate him.

5. thanks for the good wishes. glad i'm back on the boards. no,
i don't think the right wing would, but maybe there are more moderate repubs that we don't here about. a lot of people liked his leadership after 911.

10. That was the point his guests made
Their polls showed either would beat Hillary, but they aren't going to get nominated.

3. Rudy comes with a lot of personal baggage...
don't know if the Fundies could handle it or not. Of course, the Dems
would have to be willing to play at the Puke level to gain much from it.

8. And he had his mistress (now his 3rd wife) playing house in the Gov
mansion before his divorce went through. That was after he had to move out of the Gov. mansion for a while after his wife found out about said mistress - so the Gov's wife was living in the mansion while the Gov lived with two gay guys. Not exactly the GOP poster boy.

20. No and I think that's another reason he's labeled moderate.
And I goofed in my post - he was mayor, not governor! LOL - that's what I get for posting when I'm sleepy!!

7. Hope you're recovering well!!
I used to think Guilliani could be trouble, but now I think too many people put him in the same category as McCain: not having enough integrity and backbone to say "no" to kissing Bush's hiney. I think Guilliani's role in the '04 Rep Convention did him in.

17. thank you my fellow arizonan. i don't know about comparing
him to mccain. mccain is much more conservative. i don't trust mccain. i heard he has a very bad temper -- that he got so angry at a meeting that he passed out. can you imagine him with his finger on the button?

21. Oh my gosh, I never heard that story - that's scary!
I can believe it - I've also heard he's got a bad temper.

He is definitely more conservative but sometimes I hear him referred to as moderate too (which personally seems odd to me). Maybe he's pro-choice as well? I guess it could just be his anti-torture stance. Or is it just because he's worked with Dems on different issues (the one thing about him that I do applaud)?

22. he's not pro-choice. he believes abortion should only be
performed to save the mother's life. but he said that some doctors might just say that so they could perform the abortion. he also referred to the vietnamese as "gooks" and then apologized. i was fooled by him for a while too.

Luckily it seems that not only do Arizonans see through McCain, but many in the US do too!

11. Rudy would be tough because he's hard to attack.
A lot of people in this country hold a great deal of respect for Rudy because of his leadership after 9/11. He has a ton of personal baggage, but its hard to attack someone who is so well respected. It could easily backfire. Rudy's problem lies more with the conservative base. I find it very hard to believe that Bush and Rove's 3 million or so evangelicals would turnout for a pro-choice, pro-abortion, anti-gun, northeastern moderate republican.

13. I honestly can't see them running an adulterer
who tried to move his mistress into the mayor's mansion that he was sharing with his wife and children, after what they did to Bill Clinton. I realize that they're hypocrites, but I just think that's pushing it a little far, even for them.

I don't really see McCain getting it either. For whatever reason, the Repub base seems to hate him at least as much as we do, and maybe more.

I think they will run some fairly conventional right wing whacko who they can paint as enough of a moderate to fool enough of the people who don't pay attention into voting for him. It's not going to be either Giuliani or McCain IMO.
