Statement by Howard Dean on the Passing of Senator Eugene J. McCarthy
Washington, DC -- Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean today issued the following statement on the death of former Minnesota Senator Eugene J. McCarthy:
"With the passing of Senator McCarthy, the world has lost one of its most courageous and passionate voices. An advocate for civil rights, honesty in government and social justice, McCarthy was a clear voice of compassion and wisdom during a tumultuous time in our nation's history. The vision and courage he displayed throughout his public life were an inspiration to generations of Americans who followed in his footsteps, seeking to improve our society and stand up for justice by entering politics and through public service.
"Today, I join all Americans in mourning his passing and in offering his family my deepest condolences."
