Doublespeak: Bush's Comments on Iraq
Edited on Wed Dec-14-05 01:10 PM by win_in_06
Just when I ask myself how he can expect to get away with this, he does.

<snip>

"It is true that much of the intelligence turned out to be wrong. As president I am responsible for the decision to go into Iraq," the president told a foreign policy forum on the eve of elections to establish Iraq's first permanent, democratically elected government. "And I'm also responsible for fixing what went wrong by reforming our intelligence capabilities. And we're doing just that."

"We are in Iraq today because our goal has always been more than the removal of brutal dictator," Bush said. "It is to leave a free and democratic Iraq in his place.

"My decision to remove Saddam Hussein was the right decision. Saddam was a threat and the American people and the world is better off because he is no longer in power,"

1. I wouldn't say just yet that he's gotten away with it. I hope not, at
least. For two thirds of us, his remarks are only going to confirm what we've known all along. For the rest, they'd still support * even if he was caught on videotape molesting Make-a-Wish kids at Disneyland. Plus -- his spin is absolutely graceless and negates any claims of responsibility: he is saying that the intel was flawed but he is still insisting that his decision to invade was correct and that he'd do it all again. In truth, he has taken responsibility for NOTHING. And all of us who have been scratching our heads and saying WTF? for two years are still gonna be doing just that tomorrow. Believe me, I know the source of your pessimism, but I really, really like to think that the days are gone when * can skip out in front of the cameras, smirk, giggle and make everybody love him again. But ya never know....
