Fl. Elec. Dir. Now thinks 2000 election hacked

http://www.bradblog.com/archives/00002168.htm

Florida Elections Director Now Believes '2000 Presidential Election Hacked'!
Leon County's Ion Sancho Believes Electronic Manipulation of Votes Occurred in Florida's Contested Presidential Race!
Fallout Continues to Rock E-Voting World in Light of Recent Hack Demo of Machines made by Diebold, Inc.

The "hack test" of a mock election using Diebold voting equipment earlier this week in Leon County, Florida -- in which results of the election were completely flipped from 2-6 to 7-1 without even a trail of evidence left behind -- has continued to send shockwaves from Florida to Ohio to California and everywhere else in between.

The Director of Elections in Leon County, Ion Sancho reportedly proclaimed, after the stunning results of last Tuesday's test, that he would never use Diebold voting machines in any election in the county again.

-snip-

Litigation was filed against Diebold, Inc. earlier this week in Federal District Court in a Class Action Securities Fraud complaint based, in part, on their attempts at disguising the vulnerabilities and flaws of their Voting Machine equipment from investors.

18. Maybe Gore and Kerry can flip a coin or come up with a co-sharing deal
where one is the President for the first two years and then the next one becomes it while the other is VP...

Gore/Kerry or Kerry/Gore

3. so much has been lost
Although it is good news, I can't help but wonder how much different life would be if they hadn't been so disgustingly corrupt.
We needed Al Gore more than anything, how I miss him.

I am actually surprised * didn't end up with a wider margin.

Don't get me wrong, Ion Sancho is awesome and to hear him say this means that this not going away because he is very level headed and respected here in Florida.

He is even taking this to the FL. House and Senate because the FL Sec. of State will not even consider the tests as valid.

Whatever the F$%k that means.

Give Mommy a Kiss....."

Oh yeah - Nominated!

7. Was there electronic voting in Fla. in 2000?
I thought it was all punch cards. Maybe he means 2004 election hacked?

8. A few counties in south Fl. had electronic voting
The bigger theft was in the 2002 primary, when Janet Reno lost to Bill McBride. Janet Reno would have creamed Jeb Bush in the general election.

11. sigh. this again?
I'm already kicking myself for getting back into the sludge of this argument, but there is absolutely no evidence that Janet Reno would have done any better against Jeb OR that the votes were fixed against her.

First, Reno lost because she ran the worst primary campaign in the history of the world. She spent half her time in shopping malls talking to tourists instead of voters (just getting on TV doesn't do much to help you if everybody already knows you exist). McBride was a terrible debater, but based on the primary debates, she would have been just as bad, if not worse. I understand that in your crystal ball, she ends up doing well in the general election, but my crystal ball says that her general election campaign would have sucked just as badly as her primary campaign (it, as well as my own recollection, also shows that one of the many reasons McBride lost is that he hired so many of her incompetent campaign staff after the primary in a conciliatory gesture after she conceded).

Second, Reno actually did much better in South Florida (on the electronic voting machines) than she was predicted to do based on the polls. The "extra" vote came at the expense of Daryl Jones, who did spectacularly poorly in his home area compared to 1) the polls and 2) how he did in the rest of the state. Whether this was people changing their minds at the last minute or a voting "glitch" that moved his votes to Reno, I'll let others speculate.

Third, every single precinct that Reno requested recounted was recounted. Unlike the 2000 general election, there was no stopping or standing in the way of recount requests. It is true that there was not paper trail to count with the electronic machines, but, as I said above, Reno got a higher percentage in Broward and Miami than the polls predicted.

9. He means 2000 -- optical scan machines
A local Central Florida news station is running a story in which the Leon County Supervisor of Elections is claiming that results in Volusia County in 2000 indicate that an insider tried to hack the vote

Link to story and video: http://www.wesh.com/news/5542983/detail.html

Sancho began investigating the problem after watching the votes come in during the infamous 2000 presidential election. In Volusia County precinct 216, a memory card added more than 200 votes to George W. Bush's total and subtracted 16,000 votes from Al Gore. The mistake was later corrected during a hand count.

After watching his computer expert change vote totals this week, Sancho said that he now believes someone on the inside did the same think in Volusia County in 2000.

22. Why would he want to?
He has a good life. He is doing good things. He probably feels more effective out of the race than in it. And, of course, there is the simple fact that the MSM would savage him unfairly, just as they did before, no matter whom he ran against.

I would like to see Dean/Clark, but since dean is DNC chair and has foresworn a run in 2008, I could be happy with Clark and any reasonable progressive. Kucinich would be perfect, but of course he could never win because of the media-driven/stupidity-driven shallowness of our political discourse.

20. From your mouth to Gore's ears...
Wouldn't it be fantastic to see justice be done, to feel like the ship of state had been righted? So *much* of what's wrong today has its origin in the foul 'selection' of 2000. He'd be such a great catalyst for fixing everything from FEMA (a top federal agency under the Clinton administration) to electronic voting to torture to climate change to our reliance on fossil fuels to wars of choice...

We just may have to draft the man to show him how much he's really needed.
