How could Cheney make such a statement about wiretaps might have

prevented 9/11? The entire Bush administration including Powell, Rice, Cheney, Rummy, Wolfowitz, Feith etc. phoo phooed all the intel on bin Laden given them by the Clinton administration. A wire tap to pursue would be terrorists (Al-qaeda) inside the US was as far from their minds as reading the Hart-Rudman report.

1. He's trying to cover his ass. Memo to Cheney:

IT'S NOT WORKING! Your hubris got in the way; shoulda read that intel. HAd you done so, none of what has happened since before 9/11 would have. But you couldn't wait to get us into war. So deal with it, and the consequences. And BTW, that blood does not wash off.

3. Probably reading the August 6, 2001, PDB would have gone

further than wire taps to prevent 9/11. As if they really wanted to prevent 9/11 in the first place.
