Does anyone know the last time Bush mingled with "the people"?
All of his public appearances since the last election have been either speeches to right-leaning groups or tightly-controlled photo-opps with pre-arranged fake crowds (such as the two actress-sisters from Chicago who were passed off as Katrina victims). During the 2004 campaign he spoke only to "invited" audiences. Do we have to go back to the 911 rubble and the firemen to find mano a mano contact? So much for "The People's President."

1. Last week he met with those scholars.

The speech where the woman asked if Bush knew how many Iraqis had died since the beginning of the war. Can't remember the name of the institution, but you can google it. Don't know if that qualifies for what you are talking about. I do know it didn't go very well for him.

3. That was an event that shouldn't have happened.
Rove must've been out of the loop (or on a date with Jimmy Jeff).

5. Scared.
Paranoid--that implies that his fears are irrational. I think there really are plenty of people out there who might, well, you know. (Is Agent Mike watching me yet?)

4. Wasn't it when he was playing guitar while the people of New Orleans
and the gulf coast were fighting for their lives? Oh wait, he did go down to Louisiana and Mississippi to hug some of them "po' folk", didn't he?

12. I've lost count of his various arrests - I know there's been a few, but
*five* - WOWZA!
2 or 3 for drunk driving, one for cocaine. What were the others?

11. He needs to be in a town hall meeting setting...
with people from different backgrounds and political parties.Of course we know this is not going to happen, because he will blow his top and real people will speak up and won't back down.

When he hems and haws they will call him out on it and ask for more details about his answers. Why should he worry he has bodyguards and armor. Something the soldiers don't have.
